Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.
I remember Mad Max Fury Road's 3D being really good but it has been awhile since I saw it.
I just watched Kino-Lorber's 3-D release of Parasite and while the movie is pretty crummy, the 3D is really well done. Like "cross your eyes" well done at times. I prefer genre pictures like this but dang, the movie is just so dumb. I had viewed the movie before but wanted to check out the 3D presentation so at least I knew what I was getting into. I got a divorce and lost my home theater for a bit so I sold my 3D projector. Have a 4K TV now but I wonder if many people know you can watch 3D movies with your PS4 if you have the VR set-up? I didn't know it until after I had gotten the VR for it so luckily I am still able to watch many of the 3D movies I have (no other Region's though). Unfortunately I sold several before getting this set-up. The only bad thing is you don't get to share it with anyone since you have to watch the movies alone. But throw the VR goggles on with some kick-ass headphones and it is like you are sitting in a movie theater with even better picture and sound. I still haven't watched their 3-D releases of The Maze, Taza, Jivaro, Sangaree, Cease Fire or the Nudie Cuties collection. Any thoughts on these from the guys here? I prefer good movies with good 3-D and from some of the reviews, most of these movies appear to be seriously boring from what I have read even though the 3-D presentations are great. |
Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.
Got-’em all and sure some are not real good but the 3D is awesome on all of them. If you’re a 3D collector, it doesn’t matter. I’m up to 390 now and still buying.

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.
I enjoyed it but couldn’t get past the creepy faces ala THE POLAR EXPRESS. Other than that, pretty good 3D and story line.

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.
Well, looks like I got Gemini Man (3D) for free because of some screw up with a seller on Amazon.uk. I don’t know what the fuck happened, but I ordered, they got my money, then I saw it was cancelled on Amazon site. I emailed seller to say why was this cancelled? Before I got a response, I got an email from them, the seller, saying it was dispatched. Got tracking number and everything. Tracked it and something was indeed dispatched to me. I was really confused. I tried emailing seller and heard nothing for days. So I online chatted with Amazon.uk customer service. I asked why was this cancelled, even though I got a dispatch notice? They confirmed it was cancelled and that I would be getting a refund within 2 weeks. Sure enough, got a refund of $46.xx to two different cards (the only ones I have on that site and all together and one is debit cc, so $90+ total (I’m not even going to begin to understand that one) probably within days of this all happening. Then I got an email from the seller as to what the hell is going on. They had no idea, Amazon had no idea, I have no idea. Last email I got from seller confirmed dispatch and actually asked:
“Count Product Name and ASIN 1 https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/...8L._SS100_.jpg Gemini Man (+ Blu-ray 2D) [2019] ASIN: B07ZW9PYJF Dear Customer, Thank you for your mail. Now that the package is underway, how would you like to keep the order? Kind Regards, Coseon GmbHhttps://sellercentral-europe.amazon....alBXu8hozg&n=1” I replied “sure, but that doesn’t seem right since I already got refunded.“ Haven’t heard back yet. I don’t know wtf, but jimmy crack corn... |
Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.
Black Panther (Blu-ray 3D)...wow. this was like i saw it for the first time, seeing it in 3D. i don't know how this was not shot native 3D. Coogler's shots were made for the 3D image. Wakanda was certainly a wonderland to behold in the 3D format. the depth, the colors, the structures, this is definitely one of the best conversions i've ever seen and again i think Coogler had 3D in mind all along if you look at the long country shots or zooms to up close. just glorious looking shots and glorious looking movie in this medium. and the movie, seeing it now, the first cut scene, really brings the whole message together and is so timely right now. really good movie in the Marvel cannon. no where near the best, but so far in 3D, i think it is.
anyone see this on home 3D or even theater or both? would love comparison between home and theater as heard theater wasn't so great. i don't think i did, but i really don't know if i don't go searching for the stub i have somewhere in my pile... |
Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.
Anyone else see Black Panther on 3D Bluray? Wondering thoughts...

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.
I have seen them all and some are better than others ...what can I say? Maybe one day I’ll revisit them.

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.
So I took the 3-D Rarities bites. One has a Casper the Friendly Ghost short in 3D? Hope it’s awesome...

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.
Looking forward to these 3-D Rarities collections. Getting Vol. 2 first with 1 not far behind. I mean if they are half as good than today’s releases I’ll be a happy camper. How’s that whole movie on vol. 2?

I do wonder if they'll ever find enough stuff to do a third volume, especially other obscure 'foreign' 3D titles like EL CORAZON, which was kinda dull but livened up nicely by the 3D and the commentary. |

Anyone see Taza, Son of Cochise? How’s presentation? Seems to be getting raves...

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.
I reviewed that here. Strong 3D without being at all gimmicky.
Sad that they are including a red/blue version of Dynasty, after repeatedly preaching about how inferior that format is and that it wasn't used very often in theaters even in the old days. Likely a response to dropping 3D capability on new TVs, but they should be campaigning to have that brought back and not lower their standards to it. |

One possible side benefit is that people with true 3D setups can use this title to do A/B comparisons between their setup and a an anaglyphic setup, since it will be the same film, same transfer, same remaster, etc. |

Yeah, it seems like it's a response to the dwindling market for true 3D Blu-ray, with the philosophy of reaching more people and "inferior 3D is still better than no 3D."

You might want to consider using the color code 3D process as the alternate, since it keeps the color cineamphotogahy of the 3D movie closer than anagphic .almost polaroid . Unless it's more expensive, but it's a shame cause it's a better alternative. |

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ColorCode_3-D ColorCode 3-D is an anaglyph 3D stereoscopic viewing system deployed in the 2000s that uses amber and blue filters. It is intended to provide the perception of nearly full colour viewing with existing television, digital and print mediums. Danish company ColorCode 3-D ApS distributes the system, and says that it is covered by a number of patents around the world including US patent 6687003 Here's a low resolution 2D version of the same ad, so you can compare the color distortion/artifacts: No idea how good the 3D is, since I don't own a pair of glasses for it. The patent was filed in May 2001, and US patents only last 20 years, so this tech is almost out of patent, but the release would have to be delayed a few months if they wanted to use it for this title without paying the licensing. |
Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.
I had a ColorCode DVD of Ghosts of the Abyss released in the early 2000s. It was no better than the old anaglyph. Still crappy and dark 3D. Still crappy colors, just different crappy colors than traditional red/blue anaglyph.

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.
Here in Canada in 2010, CBC broadcast – and later released on DVD – an utterly lame special about Queen Elizabeth in 3D which used Color Code. Weirdly, all the TV promos and the DVD packaging showed images of red/blu glasses, but blue/gold lenses were required, and distributed at postal outlets prior to the original broadcast. Four pair were included in the DVD case.
The footage itself, shot with 3D cameras in the 1950's, was as dull as can be – lots of crowds milling around various events involving Her Royal Leechness – but I did find it easier on the eyes than any red/blue conversions I'd seen over the years, and the colours stayed a bit more true with the glasses on. Still nothing compared to legit 3D. Unfortunately, the 3D footage represented less than 10% of the run time, the rest of which was flat interviews with historians about the events seen screen, modern news clips of the Royal Parasites doing royal things, and a parade of CBC hosts popping up to remind you to put on the glasses before another 30 seconds of 3D footage was doled out. I suspect there was considerably more footage available, but they simply cherry picked a bunch of it. Would've been nice to see all of it as a supplement, even though the novelty wears off very fast. Woe the life of a 3D junkie, where you'll literally watch anything in the format.
