Not to quibble or man-splain or anything negative, but Spielberg's intent was clearly to emphasize the 3D while in the Oasis and the "real world" scenes are intentionally flat. It seems like some people are not getting that it was intentional and are criticizing the lack of 3D in the "real world" scenes.

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.
Over the past week we watched all three Kung Fu Panda movies. Those are easily some of the best I've seen on the format, especially the last movie.
When they end up releasing a fourth movie, they better offer it as a store exclusive like they did with 2 & 3 at Best Buy or I'm going to be pissed. |

Um, yay?

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.
Hey, it's something
And even better, it's Universal. First Pacific Rim Uprising and now this. And both with Atmos! Maybe they are slowing getting back in the game. It's pretty much just them and WB. |

My wife & I thought the 3D was great in Ready Player One. Really added an experience to the film. And we also felt the non Oasis content was still very good effects. Hopefully you enjoy it as much as we did.

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.
Just a heads up- apparently the Creature From the Black Lagoon set released today is messed up. The 2nd movie is encoded in side by side format rather than proper 3D. You can manually set your display for it, but the resolution is half that of the proper format. I’m holding off on buying this til it’s fixed, it isn’t clear yet whether that will even happen.

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.
Holy fuck balls RPO looks amazing in 3D. The keys popping out. Still getting started but depth in the Stacks is also nicely done. Of course as all reviews said the 3D in the Oasis is stellar. My only minor gripe is that even in Oasis, colors looked a bit washed out. I know supposed to in Stacks but color imo doesn’t pop in Oasis as much as I think it should. Can’t wait to see what Avengers: Infinity War has to offer...

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.
Apparently Universal is addressing the royal screw-up in their Black Lagoon collection. This is the response buyers are getting when they email in to complain (copied from another site; I don't actually own the set yet):
Universal Pictures Home Entertainment (UPHE) has identified a manufacturing issue which may affect the presentation of the 3D Blu-ray offering of the film Revenge of the Creature, released on August 28, 2018 as part of the Universal Classic Monsters: Complete 30-Film Collection and the Creature From the Black Lagoon Complete Legacy Collection. The issue is isolated to this particular film and does not affect any other discs in the collections. UPHE’s goal is to always deliver the best possible product to its consumers. To that end, a replacement program is being established to ensure that those who have purchased either collection have the opportunity to receive a corrected Blu-ray disc featuring the 3D version of Revenge of the Creature and 2D version of The Creature Walks Among Us, should they encounter the issue. To receive an updated disc, please email [email protected] |

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.
I would hope so, but their wording does seem fishy. Is it easier to automatically run a 3D movie in 2D when the 3D is properly encoded/transferred in the first place, or does that still not count as full 1080p? I'm no techie, obviously . . .
|
Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.
Yes, you will get only the left eye view in 2D but with 1080p resolution.

It should show the regions on the back cover. Listings have been known to be wrong. (Still waiting for my regular package.)

*Edit - I just found symbols on the back of the set. Series of three pentagon's, with A, B and C inside them. Thought that's promising, but it's odd since DVDs used letters to designate regions, and Blu-ray use numbers. |

What do you mean by "regular package"? I thought you'd ordered the 3D steel book from Zavvi also. That's what I received today, and am wondering about the Region coding for. Thanks for the replies guys! ☺️

Nope, you've got it backwards, clappj: DVDs use region numbers; Blu-rays use letters.
https://m.zavvi.com/blu-ray/avengers-infinity-war-3d-includes-2d-version-zavvi-exclusive-limited-edition-steelbook/11743005.html Thanks for the clarification! Since it says "A, B & C" on the back, looks like it's indeed region free. ☺️ |

Guess I was confused, as Zavvi lists the set as "Region 2" here under "Product Details."

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.
Amazon reviews of The Creature defects state that the entire disc is 720p. The 2D of Revenge and Creature Walks Among Us are also screwed up.

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.
Creature Walks Among Us looks absolutely fine.
Revenge Of The Creature would probably be acceptable if it had been a "lost" film and was coming from a label like VCI. Detail is on the soft side, but the image (with the exception of some moire I saw with Nelson's striped top) seemed stable. More importantly, for the first time in home video history the film is presented in it's proper AR. As it is, the presentation is serviceable taking into account it's plusses and minuses, but a big disappointment compared to the quality that should have been seen- and that the studio had recently expended resources for us TO see. In terms of resolved detail, it pales in comparison to "...Walks Among Us". |
