Just coincidentally I was listening to a 3D Archive Facebook chat from Feb. 6, and they confirmed that TREASURE OF THE FOUR CROWNS is definitely coming this year from KL Studio Classics. No Kickstarter for that one, so presumably there was no need. Another one to look forward to for sure, and as I noted above, loaded with plentiful pop-out moments that are pretty much neutered on the 2D version. :)

So I'm guessing that the order site's statement of "pre-order ending in...." is true: the pre-order will end, they'll ship out all the pre-orders, and all the rest will be regular orders, since they'll be placed on release day or later.

That’s awesome. Thanks for heads up. Just pre-ordered. Thought the first was fantastic in 3D. Haven’t even seen TNL yet, so looking forward. Didn’t even think this would come out in 3D. Woot!

It was first posted in this thread on July 1 (post #1970), and has come up a few times since. ;)

I placed my order just before I mentioned the countdown clock earlier today, and had a shipping notice exactly 90 minutes later, but as mentioned the pre-order has been up for a month or more.

The company is legit despite seemingly popping up from nowhere, and they have titles unavailable anywhere else. Whoever runs the show there must have some pull, and the fast turnaround suggests they’re eager to court overseas buyers. Eager to see what else they release.

Just checked and the ROBOT MONSTER kickstarter is now at five times the original ask. That's amazing. Bob Furmanek seemed to indicate that some of it might go toward additional bonus features (and future projects, I'm sure, although they may not need Kickstarters for them now!). I'm betting if they knew it would go this high they might not have charged for the lenticular slipcovers. Oh well . . .

Almost nobody does BD-R for Blu-ray releases. Even the major studios MOD (Manufacture on Demand) Blu-rays are actually pressed, just in small runs.

3D Film Archive always partners with a home media label like Kino Lober to release their titles. They haven't announced their partner for Robot Monster yet.

Probably a smart thing. Because why pay $40 on the Kickstart when you can buy it for $15 shipped from Kino a few months later during one of their sales and get the exact same item. I kinda felt ripped off after buying Dynasty so I didn't buy the next release thru Kickstarter.

I like to support them and everything but to not get anything exclusive on Kickstarter and pay so much more, it stings a little.

At least Robot Monster, you can add on a special lenticular cover ~~though it makes no mention of it being a Kickstarter exclusive that I saw.~~

The advantage to placing a pre-order is that you will be among the first to receive it, well before the commercial release. In addition, the bonus add-ons (lenticular cover, View-Master package) will only be available to backers of this pre-order campaign.

I believe the Kickstarter copies ship out a bit earlier than the retail ones do, and as you note at least for this Kickstarter you can pay more to get an exclusive lenticular cover. But yes, if the Kickstarter is already funded, and you can be patient, you could wait for a sale and save money.

However, I think contributing to the Kickstarter can have an impact above "does this movie get released or not." I think the Kickstarter pledge totals and first week sales of a title likely influence future titles, which ones and how often they're released. Seeing a very successful Kickstarter that went way above its goal could influence more studios to license out 3D movies for release, and it encourages distributors like Kino Lorber to keep distributing them. What's more, I'm just guessing but I figure 3D Film Archive gets a far larger cut of the sale from the Kickstarter than from the retail sales, so I know more of my money is going straight to an entity dedicated to licensing and releasing more 3D content.

But it's all a subjective determination of value and affordability. I can afford to pay a bit more upfront to support these releases, so I do. I'm not going to begrudge someone willing to wait a few months to get them on sale though.

I ask because I was reading a thread on the other board about some 3D Kickstarter film and the makers had said they were going to do it BD-R... and as I typed that out I remembered, it's: Enhanced Dimensions Collect3D.

Also finally got around to watching Tomb Raider 3D and it struck be as a below average 3D experience.

This is entirely my reason for supporting the Kickstarters. I wasn't happy with the lenticular cover for this one being an additional cost when previous ones were complimentary when certain goals were met, but I ponied up for it anyway. More importantly, Wade Williams – who owns a ton of classic Hollywood B-movies, including two more in 3D – has been notoriously difficult about licensing any of his stuff for Blu-ray, so I think there's hope now, based on the considerable success of the ROBOT MONSTER campaign, that he'll finally relent on more of the titles in his collection. If that happens, that's a decent victory for those of us who support the cause (3D or otherwise), with the carry-on effect of eventually making the discs available at a much more affordable price for those who aren't interested in the Kickstarters.

Nice. That’s all I need. Not drab or dismal. But good sounds good. Thanks tres. Amazon marketplace seller had like new for $20 with shipping. I have the 2D and digital, but $35 on Vudu for 3D/2D, figured this was better choice and probably better quality.
