It took a few years for Disney to even star releasing the films I want on Blu-Ray, non Disney animation is taking even longer, Iron Giant, Balto and several others.

Re: Walt Disney Animated classics 2012 bluray releases

Yeah, the Disney movies that I took my kids to see in the theaters is the stretch of Pocahontas, Hunchback, Hercules, Mulan and Tarzan. It will be nice once those start releasing on blu-ray. After that stretch, Disney pretty much completely derailed, although I find Lilo & Stitch entertaining enough.

Emperor's New Groove, Fantasia 2000 & Lilo & Sitch are among those included in your "derailment years.". I just can't get on board with that. Atlantis is pretty decent as well.

I think the only solid stretch a case could be made for is from Treasure Planet to either Bolt or Princess & the Frog (depending on your love of Bolt).

Emperor's New Grove and Atlantis also needs a blu-ray, seems that most of what I blu-ray is not among their "classics" aside from 101 Dalmatians, Lady And The Tramp, Robin Hood, most of the animated films I would like are 1980 and beyond.

I love that artist Mike Mignola was involved in pre-production on the look of the film

But I still consider Emperor's New Groove and Lilo & Stitch pretty unsubstantial Disney fare, entertaining, but not up to the grandeur of the 1989 - 1999 stretch. Fantasia 2000 is pretty good, sure. I just think other studios were copying the Disney musical formula and they wanted to change things up, and lost their way.

But again, I may be clouded by what I was taking my kids too at the time. My older daughter loved Anastasia (a Fox/Bluth release), and my younger one loved Hunchback, so those are near and dear to me, even though I'm not sure how they fit in the grand scheme of animated classics. Neither of them cared for Treasure Planet, Atlantis, and Home on the Range.

I guess I'm the only one who want to see Sword In The Stone on BD.

C'mon the duel between Merlin and Madame Mim is classic animation.

Hey I'll take it! I'll take 'em all. I think Sword in the Stone is one of the ones I missed as a kid, but I remember seeing parts I think.

Re: Walt Disney Animated classics 2012 bluray releases

I'm REALLY looking forward to the animated 101 Dalmatians getting a Diamond Edition Blu Ray release , as it's a favourite movie of mine , I love the classic villainess Cruella De Vil , and the film has a whole host of classic characters Sargeant Tibbs the cat ( who rounds up the 101 Dalmatians from the De Vil Manor ) and the Colonel sheepdog plus the original fifteen puppies Lucky and Patch etcetera! I guess that this will be in 2014 though as Disney tend to do only two Blu Rays per year !

I like Sword in the Stone too , I have the 1963 National Geographic with the article on the making of the Sword in the Stone love to see it on Blu Ray , I like Mad Madam Mim the delightful quirky comic villainess!

Source? I'm not finding anything when I google around.

EDIT: That appears to be a UK date, nothing set for a US date yet.

Fantasia isn't a classic title?

Honestly I don't see how many of this are considered "classics".

Hunchback, Tarzan and Pocahontas are like a decade or so old.

Re: Walt Disney Animated classics 2012 bluray releases

Didn't we have this conversation already? This thread is about the Walt Disney Animated Classics (note the capital "c") series. You can find the list of this series here:

http://www.dvdizzy.com/disneyanimatedclassics.html

It doesn't matter what the age of the film is or how you feel about its entertainment or historical value. It is part of the Disney Animated Classics series. Even last year's "Winnie the Pooh" is a Classic (again, note the capital "c").

I think what he meant is that it's not going to be part of the Diamond Editions, not that it isn't a Classic title.

Re: Walt Disney Animated classics 2012 bluray releases

Doesn't matter anyway. Fantasia/2000 has already had a solid BD release. Why take up space on the schedule when they could release something new to Blu?
