Dead Alive - 10/4/11
Blu-ray.com:
One of Peter Jackson's earliest directing efforts, Dead Alive (also known as Braindead outside of North America) has been confirmed for Blu-ray courtesy of Lionsgate. The film is one of the highlights of Jackson's splatter period and is often credited as one of the goriest fright movies of all time.
The film focuses on Lionel (Timothy Balm), whose mother (Elizabeth Moody, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring) is bitten by a Sumatran rat-monkey and transformed into a flesh eating zombie. Lionel is then left with the task of stopping his mother and the rest of the townsfolk that have been infected.
Technical specifications and special features for Dead Alive have yet to be confirmed. The film will hit retail just in time for Halloween on October 4th. A SRP of $19.98 has been set.

Hell yes. I'd love the DC, but I can live with the US cut. It's the one I grew up watching.

Nice! This movie is so incredibly ridiculous and over the top that you can't help but love it. I hope it is uncut, but I expect the US cut. The SRP means a price of no more than $15... a Sumatran Rat Monkey can't even argue with that.

I might be wrong, but I thought the shorter US cut was the "director's cut" (insofar as it being Peter Jackson's preferred version of the film).
Of course, the real solution is simple - include both versions.

... and correct.
Jackson made mention last year that Wingnut Films was in the process of restoring the "early" films (Bad Taste, Meet the Feebles, and Braindead/Dead-Alive). I wonder if the BD will be that of the new restoration or just an older master.

Here, here!
Seriously, what is it about directors that get big and suddenly their catalog of films sudden gets neglected when it comes to home viewing formats? (or did I answer my own question?)
The only Peter Jackson films that have gotten any BR love have been the LOTR trilogy.
Heavenly Creatures? Meet the Feebles? The Frighteners?
Not chopped liver in some cases, but definitely bereft of the love they need.
