I guess not:

To request a replacement copy of MGM's West Side Story Blu-ray, please call 877-369-7867 (M-F, 8 AM-5 PM PST) or email [email protected]. They'll arrange a way to make the swap.
As for fixed discs in stores, there is no call out on the packaging to distinguish versions, so you'll need to check the UPC barcodes. The corrected versions carry the following codes:
For the Blu-ray Single: UPC #88390424523082
For the Blu-ray Box Set: UPC #88390424521681
So there you have it. Thanks to our friends at Fox and MGM for providing the information.

Has anyone requested a replacement yet? What info do they need? I have the Target exclusive digibook version which has a slightly different UPC from the regular non-box version (has 81 as the extra digits instead of 82).

From the Blu-ray.com forums:
Called the new hotline (888-223-4369) this morning to make sure my original ticket from two days ago on the old hotline was still in queue. I was told that, once they've built a database of customer requests and have the replacements in stock, they'll be emailing each of us a prepaid mailer to send back the original BD. Once they receive it, the replacement will be mailed out. No word on a replacement of the included DVD (which has the same issue, if I'm not mistaken), just the BD at this time....He couldn't (wouldn't?) quote me any timelines.

Re: West Side Story -- 11/15/11
Finally watched this last night. Brief errors at the beginning aside, I was completely entranced.
It's a shame they made it out with them, because it means a lot of more exacting fans and purist will reject the disc outright. Aside from those, the other 149 minutes look sensational. Gorgeous colors, significant fine detail, and an image that doesn't look digitally manipulated or artificial. For the overwhelming majority of the films run-time, the disc is a HUGE winner.
And as far ads the fade out/in error goes- not having seen the film more than twice before in my life, I never would have known this was an issue if I hadn't read about the outrage online. From my (ignorant) perspective, the fade out/in worked beautifully in conjunction with the zoom out and the music. It may not be right or what the artist originally intended, but I actually think the effect works aesthetically, intellectually, and emotionally- so unless the shimmer and aliasing in the flyover has been fixed, I'll likely just be keeping my disc as it is. For $15 from Target for the Digibook, I consider it one of the better bargains from last year.

Complaints are rolling in that the "corrected" version is a half-assed job. Instead of the picture fading all the way to black as it did in the previous version, it fades about halfway there with the image underneath partially visible, and then fades up again. The original version of the sequence does not fade out at all.

Oh yeah, I had the digibook from Target, and the message said to send just the movie disc since I had "exclusive packaging".

Re: West Side Story -- 11/15/11
I have the Target version and I just sent in the BD. To "protect" it I sent it in an ECO case that I was planning on getting rid of. We'll see what happens. I just want the BD, I probably will never watch the DVD.

Here's a video comparison of the "fixed" version that Xylon on AVSForum put together:

I sent my Blu ray pack in the day after the replacement trade was announced.
Anybody receive their "corrected" version back yet?

I received the corrected version in my Amazon order.
I'm a little surprised that the slight change in the title sequence is a deal breaker for some.

One positive thing to add about this BD... It actually supports Resuming!
Lack of resume is one of my biggest Blu-ray peeves.

I sent in my defective disc on Jan. 17. Confirmed received by the tracking number, but as of today, I still haven't received my replacement disc. Anyone else still waiting this long?

Maybe they're doing another fix that fixes it correctly this time? We can only hope that's the reason for the delay.
