re: Halloween II -- 9/13/11
Because the TV version of Halloween II (unlike the TV version of the 1978 original) is an incoherent, jumbled mess that doesn't make a lot of sense. In the TV version, when Myers enters the Elrod home to get the butcher knife, after Mrs. Elrod notices the blood left behind on the cutting board and begins screaming it cuts to a still frame of Myers (lol!) leaving the viewer to assume that Myers has killed Mrs. Elrod. There are amateurish edits like this the entire way through. We're probably better off just seeing the alternate footage in a special deleted scenes section. Also, many of the deaths of the hospital staff are completely cut from the TV version, so it's as if most of the hospital staff just vanishes mid-way through.
I agree the tv version of part 2 is a hilarious mess that's sloppily edited together and it's fascinating seeing how drastically they had to alter films for the networks at the time. In fact, the insert of Myers shot during the Mrs Elrod scene I think is from the sauna scene or a basement scene later in the film! So the shot doesn't even make any sense at all in the context of it being inserted as a still to cover the blood on the cutting board that Mrs Elrod sees.
However I do find these versions of films interesting, and it would be nice if studios did make them available as an extra feature on their releases. Or it'd be nice if they showed up on tv still, but it's rare. For example AMC did air the original tv version of part 2 a few years ago, but now they're airing the standard edited for tv print of the theatrical version at least from what I saw aired last year.
Speaking of tv versions, I'd love to see the tv version of Two Minute Warning which had about an hour or so of new footage filmed to completely change the plot and it's supposed to be a badly edited together mess as well. The Sleuth channel is said to have aired that version recently, however I don't have that channel anymore

At least with the tv version of Halloween 2,the question of what happens to Jimmy is answered while the R-rated version doesn't answer it.

I've noticed that as well. Universal obviously hasn't finalized everything since the cover I saw the other day had a "30th Anniversary" banner at the top, and the new listing doesn't feature that. I really hope they include them.

I've been reading for years that Rick Rosenthal recorded a commentary that was never released. However, I just heard an interview with him on horrorbid.com and he says it was never done nor was he ever asked to do one..

KC, you may be seeing the "ad art" designed for Best Buy flyers and whatnot that has the title blown up and none of the other text.
I guess if Rosenthal never recorded his commentary, then that's no big loss...now I'm REALLY hoping this has the deleted scenes, because now that I know there's no commentary, it would be "complete" if it had all the TV edits (in terms of material Universal already has lying around).

The DVD of Halloween II that Universal released on September 18, 2001 was going to include a commentary with Rosenthal, among other things, but those features were dropped long before the DVD was released. It was always my understanding that the commentary track was never recorded. I never knew that Rosenthal was never asked to do it though. I had assumed he was asked and couldn't do it or Universal later decided against it.

Universal listing one and then changing their mind is probably what happened.

I remember the H20 error. I called to complain and they sent me a copy of the From Dusk Till Dawn 2 disc to say they were sorry.
I was satisfied.
