I really, REALLY wanted to like this movie after watching it on HDNet but I just couldn't do it. I wish it had been played more straight, not to mention The Drake's sons just killed it for me.

I thought they were perfect. I watched the Blu last night and it looks fantastic. Some great bonus features, too.

Best Buy has this for $17.99 online, so if the price holds until Tuesday it will only be $13 after the $5 coupon.

I'd bite on that. I agree with Mike UFC's comments - the sons killed it for me, and I hated Drake and his terrible accent. But I still had enough fun to warrant a purchase.

Gary mistakenly states that "Shotgun Mode" is the lone extra. There are WAY more extras than that.

Re: Hobo With a Shotgun >> 7/5/2011

Got this today at Best Buy using the $5 coupon, ended up being $13.84 with tax. Kind of wish they didn't have David Brunt (the hobo from the fake trailer) on one of the commentary tracks. He spent a good five minutes talking about bear safety starting during Rutger's bear speech and continuing for several minutes after, which really killed the commentary for a while. Then he kept trying to talk over people and getting after the guys for their language. Pretty enjoyable commentary apart from that guy though.

$13.77 after coupon and tax at best buy. Couldn't be happier with that deal.

What is this $5 coupon you speak of?

Re: Hobo With a Shotgun >> 7/5/2011

I'm still on the edge about this one. The reviews I've read seem to be mixed. Most of them liken the film to a Troma release, which doesn't say a lot. That's like comparing it to a SyFy Picture Original movie; most of them are garbage, but there are always a few that will stand out and become b-movie gems.

Where on the totem pole does Hobo With A Shotgun stand?

It's like the "real" Troma movies from the '80s...think The Toxic Avenger and Class of Nuke 'Em High, along with not-Troma-but-in-the-same-wheelhouse movies like Street Trash.

It's definitely more "Troma" than "grindhouse".

Street Trash was also the feeling I got from the film. Troma has NEVER made a movie that looks this good, despite years of effort. I'm a huge fan

Yeah, it seems like the movie Troma always tried to make but never got quite right...

Hey gang, I wrote a review as well for We Got This Covered. In short? One of the best Blu's of the year.

Thanks. BTW, I read your review -- great review! I'll see if I can still find a copy at BB.

The closest Best Buy to me finally received more copies of Hobo, sans the slipcover.
