Universal prepping Conan the Barbarian ('82) for 2011 BD release

I was wondering when Universal would get around to releasing this. I remember seeing photos of the HD-DVD booth at CES in 2006 and this was one of the films that was displayed around the booth.

They need to license the musical version for this.

And the new score recording as well.

I'd love a BD with two lossless audio tracks. One featuring the original mono mix and another featuring a brand new 5.1 mix that would use this new score recording.

I hope we get both movies as well as Red Sonja.....as long as they don't take out all the detail and turn arnold into one of those rubber Duracell people like they did in Predator.

As long as its the international version without all of the scenes deleted and Fox's multichannel sound mix.

yeah...wtf? Is it cuz it's the extended cut?

It was a very fun commentary. In fact, I'd love Arnold to have one on all his films. I'd love to hear wtf he thinks about True Lies. Also...I'd love one for T1 and T2. And Red Heat. And The Expendables...just for the hell of it.

God, I hope they don't fuck this up.

That sucks if they have removed that great and funny commentary track, but not surprising seeing how it came up durring Arnolds first run for Gov, and tried to be used against him by that obnoxious gloria allred.
Even though for now his politcal career appears to be over and hes heading back into acting, it wouldnt surprise me if it was decided to just leave it off(even though there are hundreds of thousands of copies of that original dvd out there)

cross fingers though that its still there and just not listed yet.

A glance at the package art from the link makes me suspicious. There should be copyright text and a block with technical specs on the bottom of the back cover. There's also the fact that the new Conan is not a Universal production (it's not with any major studio yet, as far as I know; I think it's being independently produced by Nu Image), and the way the barcode is slightly cut off on the right side. Not saying Conan isn't being prepped for Blu, but that artwork is either temp (seems doubtful) or not legit (more likely).

Well, considering the art has that swoosh across the bottom of the front/spine and Universal doesn't do that anymore, I'm going to say it's fake.

Wait, we're basing this "announcement" on a photo from a Conan fan site???

I was actually thinking the same thing, that the art work looked quite fake. like a custom cover you would find in the cover forums.

Do we really want an Arnold commentary ? As much as I love his movies, (well, most of them) I really do not want to listen to him talk for two hours. That said, I love this movies. It's one of the ones that inspired me to start collecting swords.

Well there was one already and it was entertaining. Also...it's an option...so you don't HAVE to listen to it.

That would be awesome.

Not out the realm I hope either since the UK got a BD of Red Sonja last year.

Yes we do. Some of the greatest one-liners in commentary history have come from Arnold in his commentaries. (The aforementioned Conan as well as T3)

Yep. It's half Arnold and half Claire Danes and Mostow.

Agreed. The Conan commentary is hilarious, imo. I still haven't gotten around to listening to the Total Recall one.
