Barbarian looks and sounds great to me, I haven't seen it in years so I didn't notice any differences in the score's mix. I read that the differences in the choir volumes were due to the the 5.1 remix done some time ago, not necessarily this particular blu-ray release.

I read at bluray.com that the international cut is region free. Has anyone in north america bought it and watched it?

Is the quality, etc ok?

Regards,

Sanjay

Agreed. I guess it all depends on big the score issue for some folks. To me, watching both this and Destroyer was like watching them again for the first time. I was very pleased with the AV quality.

I'll never watch Detroyer again. Saw it once as a child...hated it at that time..pretty sure I'll hate it now.

Universal releases are region free, like the Bourne Trilogy. I don't know of any that are region locked.

It looks like the most recent French release has the corrected audio and video for Conan the Barbarian. I placed an order for this one. Details are over at blu-ray.com.

Those guys are funny over at that forum:

Is also the percussion in the orgy scene intact too?
I needs my percussion during the orgy!

Seems promising. The international cut that is featured around the world on blu-ray is missing the "Moby Dick" scene before the final battle that can be found on DVD. Can you confirm if the scene is back in when you get your copy Badlieut?

Moby dick? What?

For a film that I grew up loving there is always shit that I keep finding out about it.

Will do!

For the record, the guy on blu-ray.com says it has the Moby Dick scene.

This is the "Moby Dick" scene. John Millius said that this scene reminded him of Capt. Ahab (sp?) Contemplating life in that novel, which is why this is called the Moby Dick scene. I don't know why this wasn't included in the first wave of blu rays but I'll buy the French release once I get confirmation. Thanks again, Badlieut!

God dammit, I just bought and opened my US release, what's wrong with it?

So the latest UK release wasn't complete? I had read that one was good - picked it up a little while ago.

Aside from it only being the US theatrical cut, the chorus in the score during the final action sequence was accidentally omitted.

The percussion may have gone away or something during the orgy as well.

The UK release is cut...they eliminate the horse trips.

For the US, there are a myriad of issues but the most prominent are 2 places were the chorus is missing from the music and then a place were the music is almost non-existent. There is also a seen that was supposed to be at nightime and on the blu-ray it is daylight. That has supposedly been fixed as well with the new french release.

Got the blu-ray. As far as I can tell, the nagging issues that have plagued the blu-ray releases are all fixed here. Finally!

Nice. But the French release is Region B, right?

It's supposed to be region free.

Hey Bad, can you confirm that the "Moby dick" scene is in? Plus, I noticed that amazon.fr charges 8 euros for shipping to the U.S., which brings the total to 30 dollars shipped! Did you pay this much?

Poster at blu-ray.com site says that if you have a region A player you are ok, but if its region free, and you have the player menu set to English the horse trips will be edited out... Strange feature...

That's typical if you're ordering from Amazon.fr.

The disc was probably authored with multiple European countries in mind. The English menu must default to a seamlessly-branched edit intended for the UK, where the BBFC has a hard-on for perceived animal cruelty and requires footage like that to be cut.

Finally got my copy in today. For those wondering, this is definitely region free.
