Re: Lord of the Rings Extended Edition out in 2011
From looking at other forums, it appears that a bunch of these incorrect sets are out there, that have some disc missing while another is duplicated. (I think some people on amazon have mentioned it).
I would be incredibly annoyed myself if I found that.

I was kind of surprised to see that the DVDs are labelled as 2011 and not 2002 through 2004. At least they're not completely recycled.

Also, at this point in the DVD lifecycle, it's probably still cheaper to press 3 DVDs and pay for a multi disc case, than it is to press one Bluray.

Discussed up thread already, that would have meant re-authoring all the menus. This way they can just dump the digital files from 8 years ago and not have to pay somebody to link them all to one menu.

This is my biggest beef with this set. I'm hoping for a bare bones movie only release for the Extended Editions or a massive price drop on this set. Current DVD EE owners already have all of the SD features (except the Costa docs). I may bite around $40-$45...but at $70 this is not worth it if you already have the DVD Extended Editions...in my opinion...of course.

The approach taken is inconsistent with a package of this purported caliber. The Alien Quadrilogy set is an example of how to do it right.

Did anyone ever look at the disc sizes to see if the films needed to be split over two discs?

Actually I don't really mind having the special features on DVD. PS3 currently upscales DVDs but not SD content on Blu-ray discs. Seems kind of silly that they still haven't updated that feature, but eh well...

Neat. Why does the disc 2 have such a heavy load? Is it cuz of all the big things happening in there or how much bigger the latter half is (length wise) or what?

I was half-hoping they'd remove the long-ass LOTR fan-club lists from the credits, but I suppose they're part-and-parcel with the EE crew credits.

Man, I forgot how much I loved the hand-drawn cast credits at the end of RotK. I so wish Harry Potter does something similar, but I know they won't.

Re: Lord of the Rings Extended Edition out in 2011
Update. So I'm sad to say that while I thought this looked pretty phenomenal on my tv when I just sampled scenes on my tv, I'm definitely less thrilled about it after watching the first disc on my projector. My biggest complaints are that often the picture looks underexposed, a tad greenish, and just overall dark. Even in the beginning in Hobbiton, while everyone is outside, it just looks kind of dull, like it's a cloudy day or something. I think there is going to be a lot of varying opinions on this based on people's settings, but I feel like something is amiss. It's just uncomfortably dark at times, with some black crushing. I'm no videophile, but something just felt off while watching it.
