First 3 "Resident Evil" BluRay vs DVD extras question
Okay, I'm debating picking up the BluRay for the first 3 of these, and was wondering something. I see in the reviews here that it states all bonus content was ported over. But at the same time, I'm not seeing these mentioned in the reviews either:
"Resident Evil"
-Theatrical Trailers
-Production Notes
"Resident Evil: Apocalypse"
-Cast outtakes
-Poster Gallery
-Previews
Are these indeed missing, or just deemed not important enough to mention? Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!

I can definitely attest that, annoyingly, I don't think there's a single Sony Blu-Ray where the original trailer for the feature presentation made the cut, despite every one having a fairly extensive gallery of trailers for OTHER Sony films. However, I would hope that Resident Evil contained the trailers for Resident Evil: Apocalypse and Resident Evil: Extinction, and so on.

I don't believe Apocalypse has trailers for any of the RE movies. (Would have to check later tonight.)
Extinction has trailers for the first two movies, plus Degeneration and the "Resident Evil 5" game.
Degeneration has five trailers for itself and two for the RE5 game.
I don't have Afterlife yet, but the couple of reviews I Googled don't list trailers for any of the RE movies.

So basically the trailers can be found among the discs, but the other stuff is lost to the DVD world then?

Also keep in mind that the blu-ray for the first time comes with a bunch of special features that were not included on the original RE dvd (but have been included in re-releases).
In all honesty the absence of 'Production Notes' is negligable and I doubt anyone will miss it.

Apocalypse was released on Blu-ray in January of 2007. That was still the early days of the format, when discs were single-layer, MPEG-2, and had PCM audio. Due to a lack of disc space, a lot of titles wound up dropping bonus features that were present on the DVD editions.
That was also a full year before Sony released the other movies in the series, so there wasn't any sort of coordination among titles.

Not to sound rude but would you really get the SD instead of the BR just because some trailers or production notes are missing? I want the movie with the best possible look and sound. Extras are precisely that, extras. If I could save some money I'd buy those rental discs with just the movie. Do people really watch extras that much?

I understand where you're coming from. But I already own the DVDs, so for me it all comes down to if there's more to offer and a great price on the BR side of things. Amazon's got the set for $25, which seems really good.. so I've been debating pulling the trigger.

I'll check out the extras. i like the gag reels and basically anything that shows unscripted moments. If the movie is based on real events and there is a documentary or commentary regarding the actual events I like those too. I rarely check them out more than once and never base a purchase or upgrade on the extras.

I only watch the extras for certain ones (anything Spielberg, Star Wars, Indy, LOTR, Alien, etc) I'll take space and store credit over keeping a DVD for something like a trailer though. (which you could easily look up online anyways)
