I'm not, which is why I posted at the beginning of the thread with an answer and an opinion. Just not sure why everyone feels the need to pile on and question the intelligence of the OP and/or his family. I'm sure he "gets it" and made the decision he felt was appropriate.

You apparently have never read a widescreen-themed thread here before.

After all the battles to get movies released in OAR on DVD, it's a subject that people here are very passionate about. Trying to explain why OAR is important to someone who may not understand is never a bad thing.

God forbid anyone else might want to weigh in with an opinion after yours.

For movies shot in 2:35, do they just zoom it in to "remove" the bars?
When I worked at Tower.com, I had one guy ask for the foolscreen versions of movies, then he said he had a plasma. I remarked that it was probably a widescreen TV and he should get the widescreen discs, but he said "But the Cinemascope movies are still letterboxed, so I just get foolscreen every time and adjust it so it fills up my screen". I mentioned this before and was criticized for calling him a dumbass, but I think that's about the only thing you can call someone who does this.

Those who bought foolscreen DVDs for their 4x3 TVs probably just watch them on stretch mode if they get a 16x9 later. Seeing a 4x3 pan and scan transfer on my widescreen TV with side bars is pretty amusing.
