The Fog (1979) (MGM/UA)
Hopefully the remake will be included with it, as it's the superior of the two.

The remake is with Sony, so there's very little chance of that happening.

Hopefully that Halloween release will have a better transfer and include the extended version.

Most of these excite me. I'd love a BD of Altered States.

Re: Any news on these rumored Blu-ray releases?

Scorsese's Cape Fear has its 20th anniversary next year. We might get a BD from Universal on that one.

Also, Platoon's 25th anniversary is next year. Another excellent opportunity for a BD release.

The Ring 3D is supposedly set for 2012, so I doubt we'll see the first 2 until that film hits theaters/video.

Same here. I'd love to hear it in lossless...although I wonder if my speakers would survive that lol.

What's the deal with that list? Is there any concrete information or even rumors on any of those titles, or is it just an arbitrary list of possible releases?

Overwhelmingly the latter.

Re: Any news on these rumored Blu-ray releases?

Interesting list.
And for the most part, very plausible.

Sony's catalog is somewhat limited in true marquee stuff- things like Panic Room (I would expect this to tie in to Finchers higher profile around Oscar time), On The Waterfront, and Stand By Me I expect are certain for a sooner rather than later release.

For Warner, Streetcar and Altered States are not surprises. I've heard chatter they were coming for a while. Them is a bit of a surprise. I think the original Thing is more likely given the upcoming prequel theatrical tie-in. James Cagney is noticeably absent on Bd, so White Heat in a year that studios have told us will see a major expansion in catalog releases is not hard to imagine.

The John Carpenter films across different studios also seem to be possible due to his higher presence given a new theatrical release.

the 30th Anniversary of Halloween was 3 years ago, but if they restore the expressionistic color timing, I don't care what label they give it, I'll upgrade.

Nosferatu was released on Bd in Europe (Germany IIRC) which may make it more likely than not here. This is the most exciting title on the list for me, so I hope this one is accurate.

Ace In The Hole seems an odd choice. I love the film and would be very happy to see it on Bd, but the elements to it are not in the the best shape. If they were looking to release more of their Paramount Licenses on Bd, a more logical title would be something like Naked Prey (widescreen, color, and the elements are in great shape). I hope it's true, and it probably is- but I view this a little like the news the original Kong was coming. Great film, but more likely to yield a disappointing disc/upgrade, than not.

Next to Silver Bullet (?! Paramounts catalog is probably the most under exploited- and they choose something like this?), the ones the give me the most pause are the MGM titles- but now that a deal has been worked out maybe we can see more action on their catalog- although I personally think the Blacula films are vastly superior to the Count Yorga ones- and the Corman Poes would be a better choice still if they want to mine the midnight movie catalog- but I assume Yorga is an attempt to get some reflected glow from the current fascination with Vampires ala Twilight and True Blood.

Re: Any news on these rumored Blu-ray releases?

Shadows seems like the Cassavetes film least likely to receive a Blu-ray release, other than maybe Faces. If Fright Night doesn't get a HD upgrade when the remake is released, it will never get one.

"The Ring 3D"? WTF!? (shakes head).

"Cape Fear" is one of my Top 5 Scorsese films. So I hope this happens.

Same here! I'm really hoping we do get it, even likely sans extras.
