DVD supplements NOT ported over to it's Blu-ray counterpart

As a suggestion by a fellow DVDTalk member, I thought it would be interesting to keep a tab/list on blurays where supplements that had been produced and released on DVD, but where not added on the bluray edition.

Please free to throw in your two cents and I'll add to the masterlist (below)

Close Encounters of the Third Kind - deleted scenes
Disney's Sleeping Beauty - original commentary track
Armageddon - Criterion supplements + extended cut
Fantasia (details to follow)
Saw - 2 commentary tracks + short film + preview of 'Saw II' + Behind the scene featurette + art gallery + trailers + alternate storyboard sequence + 'full disclosure report' featurette
Saw II - student film 'Zombie' + original audio commentary with director Darren Lynn Bousman and a couple of cast members, six short featurettes on the film's murder sequences + storyboard comparisons from the first edition + all of the major documentary material from the two-disc set
Saw III - 121 minute 'Director's cut'

Aren't the CE3K deleted scenes inegrated into the various cuts of the film that are on the blu-ray?

no there were further additional cuts to the film, like the airplane that had the near collison with the UFO where the men in black basically tell the crew and passengers it wasn't a UFO - and other minor scenes.

I'd very interested in knowing if and when Spielberg/Universal release E.T on blu, if those deleted scenes that were only featured on the laserdisc box set and not on the DVD, will be included on the bluray.

on an audio note, The Evil Dead (Book of the Dead edition) has DTS-ES 6.1 sound, the bluray is only 5.1 minus the matrixed rear center channel of sound.

Yes, I could update it. Just post any updates in there and I will add them to the list, it got sort of left behind because studios started more reliably porting all the content.

One I got recently, The Man From Earth. The dvd has two commentaries that aren't on the blu-ray. I was going to get the blu-ray, as I try to get more of them now, but since I had to choose between two commentaries or a better picture, I went with the extras.

Evil Dead is also missing Trailer, TV spots, Life After Death: Ladies of the Evil Dead, Make Up Test and Reunion Panel.
DotD '04 actually has the featurettes as part of the picture-in-picture but is missing the director's introduction and deleted scenes.

I think it would be easier to list the BDs that actually do carry everything over from all the various DVD editions.

Re: DVD supplements NOT ported over to it's Blu-ray counterpart

^ but's it easier to point fault at the studios that aren't porting all the DVD supplements over to bluray - some people wouldn't even remember that a commentary with some of the original animator's was on the DVD of 'Sleeping Beauty' wasn't found worthy enough by Disney Home Video execs to be included on the deluxe bluray edition - talk about kicking something interesting under the rug.

nope that's why the UK bluray is the superior product over the US bluray.

then what was the documentary from that was spliced into PiP? i know there wasn't a standalone docu, but something was pretty good in the PiP.

You're right; it was spliced in via the U-Control feature.

I'll also add "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" '78 drops the audio commentary, though it can be found on the ancient flipper disc included with the Blu-ray.

Re: DVD supplements NOT ported over to it's Blu-ray counterpart

King Kong is missing more than just featurettes.

Its missing 30+ minutes of Deleted Scenes, a 3 hour making of documentary and tons of other stuff. Huge disappointment that Universal couldnt port this stuff over.

Also Kingdom of Heaven. It lacks every single special feature from the amazing 4 disc DVD set

the sound maybe great, but even the picture I've noted in several online reviews state the image could have been better, if there's one Fox title that could undergo a 4K remaster and have the extras recomplied, this is that title.
