I think Disney wants to forget they ever made direct-to-DVD sequels of their classic films in the late 90s/early 2000s.

Fuck the sequels. Those don't count. Thankfully...they're sooooo overwhelmed by how awesome and great the originals are that they're rarely mentioned.

One is lossless (MA) one is not (HR). HR is rarely used on the format. I can't think of another title.

I believe Doctor Who: The Complete Specials and Doctor Who Series 5 both have HR audio.
Is there a proper list anywhere online that keeps track of this?

Not cool with the lack of lossless audio on this one. I wonder why this didn't get it whereas seemingly every other Disney BD has it.
Even Warner, who once put lossy tracks on a lot of titles, now have lossless on just about all new releases--even if it's just lossless mono for older movies.

This doesn't bother me in the least. With early films from this era ('30's-'40's), I almost never choose the 7.1 option but go for the original track (if provided). I'm happy to see a Restored Original Soundtrack option on this release. The original audio is as important to me as the OAR.

I am likewise glad that the original track is included. But since this is Blu-ray Disc, not DVD, and has a much greater data capacity than DVD, some consumers would like to see that capacity put to full use, which includes lossless audio tracks. IMO, there should be at least one on every BD.
Bambi is a great film, and Disney's decision to go with lossy audio will not dissuade me from buying it. But I do believe those who have expressed disappointment with the lack of a lossless track are making a legitimate complaint about what is supposed to be a premium format.

A handful of foreign releases use DTS HR rather than MA. You're right that it's very rare, though.

Tangeled is also showing a HR track. Guess we'll know in a few weeks.

Saw the back cover for Tangled. The English track was listed as DTS-HD MA. French track was DTS-HD HR.

Both the 7.1 remix and the original stereo soundtrack should be lossless on Bambi. The film is 70 minutes long and a majority of the bonus material is in standard definition. You could have both audio tracks in lossless at a bit rate of 10mbps and there would still be plenty of space available.

Re: Bambi: Diamond Edition - 3/1
It is sad to see studios regressing at this point, as other than Warner's TV & Kids divisions (and some C or D level studios/distributors), I thought this issue had already been put to bed long ago....
Now we have Universal, who had been completely lossless up until this point, releasing Uncle Buck with a lossy track a couple weeks ago...and while that was a "budget title" (still no excuse), worse yet we now have Disney going lossy on one of their crown jewel Diamond titles? Seriously?? If you have to pick a title to skimp on, can't they just save it for one of their DTV cheap-quels???
