3D Player on a 2D Screen?

If I watch a 3d movie on a 2D TV, can it be 3D with glasses? Do 3D BD players come with glasses for people who don't yet have 3D TV?

Sorry if this is a dumb question.

Depends on the player.

Thanks for the reply.

You got me a bit confused though. If the pic won't be 3d on a 2d screen with glasses, what are the glasses for then on certain players?

I misunderstood your question. The glasses are only for 3D TV's.

Oh thats something I didn't know, that you still need to wear glasses even if you have a 3D TV.

Now that I really think about it though it makes sense that even 3D TV's would still require glasses.

You need a 3DTV period to watch 3D Blu-rays.

You can't watch any 'real' 3D content on a 2D TV.

You can't see 3D content without a 3D TV and 3D glasses. The glasses connect to the TV as a way of syncing the signals. They're not like the old 3D glasses most people are used to. The 3DTV is needed as it knows how to handle the 3D information. I know in the original plan for 3D BDs, you were supposed to be able to play them on a regular blu-ray player and non-3D TV, but you would just get a 2D image. I'm not sure if that stuck or not, or if you still have to have a 3D blu-ray player, but the TV doesn't have to be 3D. So you should be able to purchase the 3D movie, but your TV will only show it in 2D. But if you plan on buying a 3DTV in the near future, it might be worth any extra cost so you don't have to upgrade again later.

Think of it like HD. Everything in the chain has to support it, or you won't get it.

I wonder if it's possible to support the old anaglyph 3D anyway, if the player could tint one image red and the other cyan during playback. Or would there not be enough information in the images to properly do it?

There are new sets coming out soon that will utilize passive glasses like the ones you use in a movie theater, as opposed to the active shutter glasses that all current 3D TV's require. I'm very interested to see how the 3D quality on these will compare to the active shutter technology.
