Meh, just another box of crap from WB.

Awesomness!! Not often that U.S. swag collectors get this kind of treatment for a release. Just preordered from WB...

I like this particular box of crap. Aside from the not-so-large casing and the totem, it also looks like some kind of instruction / operations manual for the dream machine will be included. I'd be interested to see what kind of technobabble has been cooked up for that.

Now, whether all that stuff's worth the price of TWO standard sets upon release week is another story.

Meh. These giant boxsets are not really all that great. I find I look at the stuff for 5 minutes and it rots on my shelf. Pass.

It's THAT small?

I'll say again...

The metal briefcase measures 9 x 6.5 x 2.75 inches.
....I'm not keen on this thing anymore if it's at that size. It's smaller than the Blade Runner case.

I was never really one for these types of collector sets. I'm going for the steelbook anyway. It'll be the only reason I shell out $30 for a new release. Hard to believe, but I think the last steelbooks I bought were around this time last year, with Star Trek, Transformers 2, Up and Monsters Inc..

It looks like different art for a slipcover, so I'm betting it's got an extra (DVD) bonus disc. Meh.

Re: Inception- December 7th, 2010

Questions to those who ordered from UK before with digital copy.

I know the DVD doesn't work and don't care. But does the digital copy work in US? I'm getting the UK set because it's cheaper but if the digital copy doesn't work, I have to think about it a little more.

The Art Cards seems different from UK and US. Is the UK one a poster art? can't really tell. If it is, I prefer it more than the character art from US - so that's another decision difference.

Also, wait, so, I don't get the comic book if I order from the UK? Lame.

Every WB new release is a combo pack, so it's probably a bonus disc of extras.

If it is, I guess I'll be buying it from Best Buy too and re-selling the UK Blu-Ray on Amazon.co.uk.

Notice the lenticular cover change.

Another huge plus about the blu-ray is that, in the Special Features, the 5.1 Soundtrack selections from Hans Zimmer's score is in 5.1 DTS-HD!!! (I was wondering why the Special Features were on a second blu-ray disc - usually 2nd disc extras are thrown onto a DVD instead of a blu-ray). And I almost bought the CD for this film - it's a good thing I held off.

Note about the DVD that comes with it: Just "Play" and "Setup" options on the main menu - not one extra on the DVD itself.

On the Blu-ray,
There appears to be a quick, tiny audio glitch skipping sound during the music at the 2:21:27 mark during the credits at the end of the movie, right after "Edited by Lee Smith" pops up. Not a big deal but still a bit annoying. I hope someone else checks this out after receiving the bluray. I played my bluray over and over and the glitch kept repeating so I dont think it's my bluray player.

VIDEO: 4.5 (sharp, solid black levels, good colors, and just the way I remembered how it looked in the theater. I especially love how those snow scenes look on blu.)

AUDIO: 5 (just amazing sounding and demo worthy of course. I still flinched during the Mombassa chase scene when the dude bangs his head into the car window)

Re: Inception- December 7th, 2010

what the video is a '5' - given how Nolan shot some of the movie in 65mm??

jiggyblau 11-19-10 09:53 PM

Re: Inception- December 7th, 2010

FYE and Suncoast both list in their little coming attractions inserts in store that Inception will be a steelbook for the blu-ray, for a limited time. I looked through the thread and didn't see this info posted anywhere. Hopefully the US folk who want the steelbook won't have to worry as long as they have an FYE nearby.

I'm curious to give this a second chance. I just thought it was 'good' the first time through; not the master-stroke so many made it out to be. As a huge Nolan fan I'll be adding this to my collection though irregardless.

Re: Inception- December 7th, 2010

Sad to see a score of 3.5 for extras because I hoped it would be just crammed with stuff. I think I would rather have older style commentaries and not these modes like on Watchman and Cop Out. I love hearing Kevin Smith talk but I don't need him popping up in the frame to stop the film. Plus I like how they separated commentaries and had maybe the cast on one and the crew on another. I enjoy blu-rays but they seemed to think that they have to improve on somethings and stuff like commentary tracks just need to be left alone.

$29.99 - combo pack + exclusive script

There is a single disc version on BD?

I think it's exclusive to them. There's also a 19.99 version of The Town listed on their site. Might be another one.

Similar to Walmart getting single disc 19.99 versions of Elm Street and Splice.

I don't mind it if they keep doing that. I usually opt for the combo pack, but we start seeing consistent $5 differences between the 1 disc and the version with a DVD/DC, I'll opt for the cheaper one.

Yavin 11-29-10 02:15 PM

Re: Inception- December 7th, 2010

I see the value of a cheaper single disc edition, when it is a 2-disc set and the 2nd disc is only a DVD and/or DC. But Inception is a 3-disc set, with the first 2 being Blu-rays. In this case, the single disc edition would be missing the meat of the extras from the 2nd Blu-ray disc.

Re: Inception- December 7th, 2010

I just got a confirmation that "Inception Limited Edition" has been shipped from UK. It said it has been shipped via Royal Mail - Is this like media mail or mail by boat or something? Because my estimated delivery time is 12/29, which seems long.

I don't care about the wait. But what I'm worried about is the damage that this might cause to the case, because a lot can happen during those time. And I don't know how it's going to be packaged, and that briefcase does seem like it can get scratched easily.
AHHHH... now I wish I would've just ordered directly from WB and pay the extra $5 when I had the chance.

My thoughts exactly. It was a good movie, but definetly not ground-breaking.

Looks like I may have to buy multiple copies. Future Shop has a steelbook which I NEED. HMV Canada has the metal briefcase set and Best Buy has a version with alternate slipcover/shooting script and $10 rebate.... getting the first two sets for sure I think - depends how cool the HMV set really is.

this will have a better edition down the line, for sure, so I will stick to the cheapest copy I can find (target), and call it a day.

looks confirmed that the the FYE SteelBook™ is same as Future Shops', which is extremely lovely.
