Exotica on Blu-ray?

Arguably the best of Atom Egoyan's films, Exotica has been out of print for some time, and badly needs to be rereleased. The movie looked quite good on DVD. I saw it on a 4:3 CRT TV, but as some viewers noted, because it was matted, the movie appeared windowboxed when watched on a widescreen TV. I could only imagine what a good transfer of this film would look like on high def: the lush interior scenes of the Exotica would surely dazzle the eye (if only real-life strip clubs looked like that!). To hear the eerie and at times hypnotic score on a superior audio track would be a feast for the ears.

Just fantasizing...

The Sweet Hereafter is better.

I don't think we need to judge them against each other. They're both good movies.

They're probably the last two good movies that Egoyan has made, unfortunately.

A very sad, yet true statement. I was really hoping Chloe could have changed that. Sadly disappointed by it.

I love both films and consider them masterpieces, but I would say "Felicia's Journey" was a very good film in his repetoire. He started losing it with Ararat and it just went downhill from there.

Love to see Criterion pick up Exotica and The Sweet Hereafter.

I wouldn't go that far. Felicia's Journey was also very good (not to mention it featured an excellent Bob Hoskins performance).

Felicia's Journey, really? That's Egoyan's "jump the shark" moment, as far as I'm concerned.

Fortunately, The Sweet Hereafter is available on DVD. The Platinum release is great--picture quality very good, ditto extras. Unfortunately Exotica is out of print. Thankfully I have both--until better versions come around, if they ever will.
