^^
I have agree that The Rocketeer is on my wishlist as well. Tron is, too, but I figured that with the new movie coming out, a BD of the original was a given...

the FX never bothered me, it was the freaky bizarre ending that threw for a loop.

I would rather seem some of their 90's flicks like Heavyweights and The Rocketeer.

^ as I recall I think it was 'The Rockateer' that was Disney's first film to use Kodak's digital sound format (CDS) - I remember the soundmix in the theatre being quite aggressive and thrilling.

I'd like them both, but would prefer IN SEARCH OF THE CASTAWAYS first because, unlike ROBINSON, it was a pitiful P&S affair on DVD.

Boys and girls, can you say.... DICK TRACY?

What a gorgeous Blu-ray this one would make!

This has to be incorrect, as TRON was shot in scope. Even the recent HDNET showing had it in 2.35:1. Would Disney dare?

Good to know there is a remake of Black Hole on the way so I can adjust my anticipation for a release of that, accordingly.

Far and away though, my #1 WD live action property is The Rocketeer. I doubt the fact that next year is the 20th anniversary already since the film has never been accorded any kind of prestige release by the studio before. At this point though, even a bare bones BD would be a major step up over everything else that has come before, it would still be massively appreciated. As it is now, there isn't one edition of this movie available on any medium that I consider watchable on a large screen display, let alone a front projector.

I would love to own the rocketeer on bluray next year for its 20th anniversry.
Along with The black hole its a favorite Walt Disney live action title for me as well. I have a original double sided one sheet signed by Director Joe Johnston, and pretty much the entire cast.(all the main actors, and quite a few of the supporting ones)

Actually Tron was shot on 65mm film, further more it was optomized for 70mm prints for theatres showing it in 70mm composed for 2:2:1 aspect ratio, but the theatres showing it on 35mm actually featured a 2:35:1 cropped version .

This thread opens a wave of every Disney live action film ever:

Most of which we all hope get a decent BD release at some point.
But let's get real with the one's who stand a real chance....

Damn...looking at that list. I honestly don't give a shit about Disney in it's early live action. Hell...I barely care about the ones coming out now. I'd like The Rocketeer but...we'll see about that one..it might get some love w/ Cap coming out.

I guess Return to Oz doesn't stand much of a chance, but I'd pay full retail for a BD of that film. My favorite childhood movie.

Considering Disney had previously licensed it to Anchor Bay seems to indicate how little they value the movie. Same goes for Something Wicked This Way Comes and The Watcher in the Woods (yet they totally stonewalled Anchor Bay from re-creating the test screening cut of that one).

whenever i think of the Something Wicked This Way comes - I think of the song that is sung by the Hogwart's kids choir in Harry Potter and the Prizoner of Azkaban.

HDNet cropped it - I was also sure the film was shot and released theatrically in 2.20

Yeah, I just checked my DVD and you both are correct on the 2.20:1. But still, that would require the 'letterboxing' mentioned specifically for 20K Leagues, but not for TRON. So either the report is incorrect, or their cropping it to 1.78:1 (which I doubt).

Re: Possible Disney Live action films, 2011 bluray releases.

honestly I don't know the hell they mean by stating 'letterboxing'? This may have nothing to do with it, but when Lola Montes was restored then rereleased theatrically - the prints struck were 2.35 with the 2.55 image placed in the middle, with minor banding below and above the image - that wouldn't matter though in terms transfering the film to hidef home media where the black bands are automatically there.

Rocketeer

I contacted a couple of Disney home video PR people a few months ago, enquiring whether there were any plans in the works for a 20th anniversary Rocketeer release (especially on BD). They said they had no such plans. Not that it is a definitive answer by any stretch of the imagination, but still rather disappointing.

How long has the Tron 20th Anniversary DVD been OOP?

Looks like it is now, adding more truth to Tron dropping on BD soon.

Wont be till next year when Tron Legacy hits bluray as well. If the original tron was going to come to bluray timed to release with the theatrical release of tron legacy it would have been announced a while back now.
