11 titles on that top-50 list that I don't have in any Blu-Ray release, including Star Wars since it's the bastardized versions- would've bought that on day 1 if they were the originals. 32 of those had 3D versions available (though Frozen and Maleficent weren't released in the US since Disney are a bunch of poo-poo heads.)

37 titles in that Top 50 list I don't have...mainly because they are crap franchises about superheros and giant robots.

I have 37 of the top 50, although there were a few I wish I didn't. I don't know why I keep getting Transformers movies. I can't even use "well, I was sent them to review..." as an excuse.

I have about half of the top 50. The list makes it obvious that my buying habits started to turn around 2013 when I stopped getting the big releases other than stuff I really wanted (Captain America 2) or kids' titles. I still don't have Star Wars, mostly because of the high price but the editions gave me pause as well. I'm sure I'll get it at some point.

I actually have 49 of the 50. Only missing the Ninja Turtles, and I'll probably get that when it gets real cheap down the line.

I have the first Transformers on HD-DVD because I collected every title on that format after it officially died (and discs made by Technicolor didn't rot, unlike Cinram!) and the 3rd and 4th just because they're in 3D and I want to go out of my way to support that at least until the bad press about it goes away. Don't have the 2nd because it notes on the cover that it was changed from the theatrical version. Got it for free on Vudu anyways and it was pretty bad.

They're big special effects movies that look good in HD. They sort of exist in this zone where we they know they aren't good movies, but they aren't completely awful, either. You can put them in your player and fast forward through any scene where the Transformers don't appear.

That's my story, anyway.

I have 31 on that list, btw.

I'm actually surprised that Gone Girl didn't even make a dent. Everyone - male/female jocked the shit out of it.

I have 17 in Blu and a few more still on DVD. Things like Transformers and TMNT were my life as a kid, but the new movies just look like garbage and I can't bear to look at them.

What I said back at the time was that it didn't strike me as a purchase. I want to see it but I'm unlikely to blind-buy it.

The changes from the theatrical version amount to some incidental lines of background dialogue being moved around or replaced. Nothing significant that anyone would notice if not told about it.

Well, there's that. It's f'ing horrible.

42 out of 50 (Blu-Ray).

The only I see picking up later is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Ones that do not interest me at all:
Ted
Watchmen
Inglourious Basterds
How to Train Your Dragon 2
The Hangover

I rented it last night and I'm glad that I didn't blind bought it. There's no way I'm going to rewatch it again. Probably people are thinking along the same line.

I don't really worry about the declining sales numbers. The music industry's revenues are going through a frightening collapse as we speak, the Millennials' ultimate legacy will be they permanently killed physical media for all entertainment.

If Hollywood thinks it's bad now, wait until IP television knocks out monopolistic control of the cable industry. Hollywood will do what they have always done, attempt to buy enough votes in Congress to change the laws. Streaming revenue is no long-term replacement for physical sales, consumer habits completely shift when presented with digital replacements.

Because we haven't done enough damage to culture just yet :(.

More generally, wonder how much of this is just a symptom of chronic longer term issues, where the Millennials coming of age just happened to coincide with the present time period is somewhat incidental.

For example, such as more entertainment options unrelated to music and movies/tv, etc ... (ie. more local casinos, video games, texting, etc ...).

re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - #2, but we try harder

No, the sales collapse can largely be tied to the Millennials eschewing physical media. Older demographics are still buying media at roughly the same levels they always have in the past. People used to graduate college and would then become media consumers with their income. That was needed to sustain sales but it no longer happens in great numbers.

Can you share some statistics?

I mean, I'm certainly not arguing about teenagers/twentysomethings having less attachment to physical media, but the idea that everyone else is buying as much as they ever were and it's this one age group that's torpedoing everything sounds preposterous to me. It's anecdotal, I know, but pretty much all of my friends, family, and coworkers are all-digital at this point. Doesn't matter if they're barely teenagers or in their fifties. Video games are the only real exception, and even that's hit or miss. Movies = theaters or Netflix. Music = Spotify or Pandora. TV = Netflix or cable. I'm in my mid-thirties and buy a hell of a lot less than I used to.

It's because oldboy isn't buying enough blurays.

Um, okay. I don't think I asked for anything wildly unreasonable. Maybe I'm wrong, but that still sounds like total bullshit to me.
