Re: Star Wars
I'll be honest I don't like the Greedo shooting first scene but it's never been one of my most hated changes. The main reason I don't like it is because it looks bad like others have mentioned. It feels like a change that doesn't work because of how it was shot but Lucas keeps on trying to make it work by constantly changing it.
Honestly a lot of the changes I dislike most are from Return of the Jedi. The dumbass Jedi rocks song at Jabba's palace, the Vader "noooooo", Hayden Force ghost. Also from the first film I think I dislike the Jabba and Han scene most. It looks shitty and is also pretty pointless and ruins Jabba's introduction in my opinion. A lot of the other changes are things I don't hate but they just don't add anything like all the extra stuff during the Mos Eisley scenes. There's so many little things that aren't the most annoying but just make me wonder why Lucas thinks they're necessary or improve the film. |

Two things, first I get what Lucas was trying to do with the character which I'm not opposed to it's just the fact that...
Second, it's been 20 years already(holy shitballs!) and I've been beaten into submission. I just don't care about this change anymore. There are far worse things that need to be rectified like Jabba, Anakin, ROTJ's ending, etc. |
Re: Star Wars
If the OT SE was remastered in 4K, you holdouts still wouldn't buy it?

I may if the price is right.

Re: Star Wars
I have the original cuts (or close enough I guess, can't keep track) on VHS and those non-anamorphic DVDs. I bought the big BD set (used and pretty cheap) for the extras.

Yes but with the changes to the end of Jedi it screws up the viewing of the entire saga as a whole. Why would old Obi wan be there with you Anakin? Don't give me that crap about Jedi Anakin dying when he was young cause "Anakin" came back when he killed Palpatine. So either both are young or both appear as they do when they died.
It was fine when the OT was all that existed. It was assumed this is simply what happened to all Jedi when they died. BUT, the PT said this is not what automatically happens--this is a learned skill. Qui-Gon partially (voice only) discovered the trick and taught it to Yoda, who we have to assume perfected it (visible blue ghost). Obi-Wan learned it from Yoda during his Tatooine exile. When did Vader learn it? (Or hell, maybe Luke makes Jedi ghosts. All three blue ghosts are people that died while in the same room as Luke. Whiny jinx.) ;) |

Re: Star Wars
I don't own the dvds and I don't own the blu-rays, so I can't imagine I'd buy 4k releases either.
|
Re: Star Wars
I own the DVDs and Despecialized Editions. I'm done unless they release "Star Wars" and I'm not talking about "A New Hope". I want the one I saw in 1977.
|
Re: Star Wars
Original Cuts or nothing.
|
Re: Star Wars
Yep, that's worked so far.
|
Re: Star Wars
I only own the non-anamorphic dvds. I really hate a lot of the changes and they pull me right out of the movie when they come.....or worse, I mentally note "oh, in about a minute here comes something stupid".

Re: Star Wars
I got the original six films using Xbox credits, and now they're appearing in my VUDU library so they must've been added to Disney Movies Anywhere. However, they don't include the Fox film, A New Hope, which is annoying.

Re: Star Wars
Project 4K 77 says they are almost done. Maybe around the end of Jan. That will be exciting to check out.
Any updates from Harmy? |
Re: Star Wars
So from what I'm gathering here many of the home video releases for these films have their shortcomings.
I'm finally getting around to purchasing the series on disc. I ordered a used copy of the 2008 trilogy for Episodes IV - VI. I don't know much about the home video releases for these films but the price was dirt cheap (at least for that set) and I wanted the theatrical cuts. What is the recommended / go-to Blu-Ray set for these films? I saw the Trilogy Blu sets in the store the other day (the 6 disc combo packs) but looking at the package it seemed pretty barebones in terms of bonuses, save for some commentaries. I know there were also two Trilogy sets released in 2011 but I don't know much about those. Reading Amazon reviews doesn't seem to help since they (stupidly) combine reviews for the DVD set(s) and multiple different Blu-Ray sets. I've also seen The Complete Saga set (with Darth Vader on the front) so I was considering that. Am I correct in assuming the only difference between that one and the 2011 release is the packaging? |

The individual movie discs or trilogy sets are just the respective movie discs from the "Complete Saga", minus the bonus discs. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Wars_(Blu-ray) http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Star_...aga_in_Blu-ray |

Re: Star Wars
they're expensive as shit, but if your a purist, and don't mind non anamorphic versions of the unaltered trilogy. Look for the "limited edition" dvds. get em used too

Re: Star Wars
I bought The Complete Saga when it came out, I'd probably buy it again in UHD when it comes out in that format, although I guess it depends if I cave in and buy UHD versions of any of the newer movies when they're released.
