I don't have the Close Encounters box, but its definitely much larger than a regular blu-ray, but very nice looking.

I believe it's just a hair taller than Close Encounters, but the set is very classy for sure.

Yes, but not everyone throws away their slipcases as you do. People are looking for size comparisons as a complete package. Still a bit taller than your normal digibook even out of it's slipcase.

I picked this up at Costco awhile back and have yet to watch it, but I have to say that I *LOVE* the packaging. Very high-class with a quality-level that betrays the low price.

I'm not sure why Sony felt the need to make it slightly taller than every other digibook release though.

Shamefully, I too have yet to watch my Bridge Blu-ray. It's on my list for the Historical Appreciation Challenge, which begins tomorrow. Definitely looking forward to seeing Alec Guinness lose his mind in HD.

The digibook by itself is the same height as others, I think. But when you put it in the slipbox, that's where the added height comes from.
