Question, won't these be pal transfers on the DVD version, which would mean pal speedup? Granted anything would be an improvement over the Directors Cut dvd that Tartan released, but still.

A lot too late, especially with this set coming out in the UK.
I actually enjoy the fact that this isn't available in R1. Hunting down the versions you want is kind of fun, in a nerdy/collector kind of way.

I somehow knew that would happen as soon as I broke down and went for a foreign release. Oh well...from the looks of the Arrow release, they will have some huge shoes to fill to make a release that comes close to this!

No need to worry. It's been ten years meaning some sack of shit worthless independent company will grab the rights for it and fuck it up. The only way to make money off Battle Royale at this point is for whichever studio to grab it to put out numerous BD/DVD editions (one for the Hot Topic crowd who has no money, another for the film collectors crowd who have money, yadda yadda yadda).
If a studio does grab it for a theatrical release, I really hope IFC Films grabs it; because then there's a chance they'll lend the rights over to Criterion for the DVD/BD release. The only other independent studio that does theatrical releases that might grab it would be Magnolia.
Really, there's no other independent studio I can think of currently putting out stellar Blu-ray presentations besides Blue Underground and Criterion (because Battle Royale deserves a balls-to-the-wall release like Arrow is doing in the UK).

It's the American Film Market, so I wouldn't be surprised if Toei is packaging them all together.
I texted my friend this morning who was there this week if she saw anything regarding it, but I haven't heard a response yet.

Holy fucking shit. Anchor Bay picked up the rights.
EDIT: They have full rights to the film (including Special Version and the new 3D version) and the sequel.
EDIT x2: Man, this would've been exciting news ten years ago when Anchor Bay was on top of their game and Bill Lustig/Michael Felsher were still apart of the company.

Re: Battle Royale (Arrow Releasing)--October 2010?
The R3 release of Battle Royale 2 is the only DVD I've genuinely wanted to throw in the trash after I got it in the mail. Not even worth the plastic it's printed on. I hope they got a good deal on that piece of shit.
Still going for the Arrow release. Anchor Bay is sure to milk this for all its' worth well into next year. I haven't seen them put out anything spectacular since Dawn of the Dead: Ultimate Edition. And that was ... what... 6 years ago?

When Starz bought them, their output just hasn't been the same.

Yeah, but have they had any opportunities on this scale? It's less that I can think of all these releases they bungled or that were underwhelming, and just that I can't think of the last time Anchor Bay controlled anything I really wanted to see done right.
