Best Blu-ray that takes advantage of "Blu-ray Exclusive" extras?
So I just got my first Blu-ray player tonight. Nothing special, Sony BDP-S360. No special set-up either, but I want to finally take advantage of the more and more common "Blu-ray Exclusive" extras.
my first purchased BD was The Hurt Locker which doesn't have any exclusives, but I got bc of the BB SteelBook™ some time ago.
my real first BD purchase that i am looking forward to is (500) Days of Summer. just a charming movie that i wanted more of and the DVD didn't offer that at all. the BD adds a host of little featurettes that i know i will like. so got site-to-store for $14.99 from Walmart.
What I am wondering is:
regardless of video and audio presentations, what are some good to great BD's that take full advantage of the "exclusive" content moniker? Online stuff, in-movie stuff, featurettes, etc...

Is there a reason why you are getting a discontinued BD player over a newer model (gift? used? from a friend?)

How cheap? New model BD players can be had very cheap to, and you might want a WiFi version or one with Netflix etc. (or one that has an Eject button on the remote
)

Avatar doesn't have a single extra and a better, extras-laden version is forth coming. Disney's are a safe bet, but I have most of the SE's already that i want and only Toy Story 2 did something for me.

Sell some of those Steelbooks now that you've finally caved into the superiority of the Blu
Minority Report is a must-own Blu-Ray just for the booming sound alone, not to mention what a brilliant film it is. Plus, perhaps for what you are looking for it has over 1 hour of new features all in HD.
Glad you liked 500 Days of Summer, its such a great movie & Blu-Ray.

love Minority Report and just checked dvdcompare.net and those Blu-ray exclusive features are exactly the intention of this thread. just wish i didn't have the 2-dsic DVD already. perhaps if i find it cheap it would be a must.
looking forward to the (500) extras. i'm not like this with every movie that i see for the first time, but there are some movies that when they are over you want to see and know more from the cast and director. this was definitely one that left me wanting more after the DVD viewing when it first came out.

Band of Brothers has a very good PiP commentary with the original soldiers providing the commentary. There is also a mode that has popup features, facts, etc while you are watching that is good. Both are a new, enjoyable way to watch the series.

That reminds me that I've yet to watch any of the special features of Band of Brothers.

Well...you get the IMAX version of TDK if you get it on Blu. It does the format change automatically much like it did in Theaters.

Daybreakers
- 2 hour documentary, which was cut down to 40 for the DVD version.
Funny People
- Even more extras than the full DVD, and all worth it if you love the movie.
The Lovely Bones
- Haven't gotten around to watching it yet, but there is a 3 hour documentary exclusive to it.
M - Criterion Collection
- The long lost English Language version with Peter Lorre's first ever English performance. Although the UK DVD has this, so in reality a BD exclusive only for America.
9
- The U-Control Picture-in-Picture plays during the movie, and very good stuff in there. Interviews, cast recording sessions, storyboards, animatics, etc. scene specific.
Sherlock Holmes
- Picture-In-Picture Maximum Movie Mode, which sadly doesn't load on my player...
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
- The immersive interactive menus and featurettes
Standard Operating Procedure
- The most loaded Errol Morris disc, a lot more extras and very informative, but nothing very "Blu-ray" about them, just more deleted scenes, extended scenes, Q&A, stuff we can easily see on DVD, but wasn't released on it.
Up
Second disc is loaded with featurettes exclusive to the BD.
Valkyrie
- 2 hour documentary and many other bonus features.
Watchmen
- Maximum Movie Mode on the original director's cut disc, not on the Ultimate edition

I did watch the BD set with the pop-up commentary; the commentary is not screen specific however they tried to put them up when the subject was being played.

Seriously, if you liked Harold and Kumar.. Escape from Guantanamo Bay has a branching version where you can pick how the movie goes. It is pretty sweet. Like
I thought it was pretty cool to say the least.

Same is true of Role Models, around 40 minutes of additional deleted scenes they couldn't fit on the DVD.

Also one of my favorite Blu-exclusives is Justice League Animated movie. The Blu-Ray comes with the unaired pilots of Wonder Woman & Aquaman. Worth buying the Blu-Ray just for this so you can get Linda Carter in HD

I haven't had a chance to check them out yet, but people seem to love the "Maximum Movie Mode" that some Warner releases like the "300" Digibook, "Terminator Salvation," "Sherlock Holmes," and I think "Watchmen" all have.

If you really want to take advantage of BD-J then check Disney's Blus:
Enchanted - Full immersive and seamless interactive quiz that plays during the film.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest - Play Liar's Dice with Pintel and Ragetti.
You will also find Cloverfield's Special Investigation Mode pretty interesting.

. Or the bottomless scene, you can branch that to be a topless scene instead with whole new footage shot with that scene in mind.
Good start on the ordered ones. I love all 5 of those movies & Blu-Rays.
