Excellent news. That's a fantastic scene that really belongs in the film.

Will there be any changes to the final soundmix of the last action sequence? I ask because in the audio commentary Stallone had mentioned that he debated long and hard wether there should be music there or not.

No audio changes to the final battle.

Oh well. Would have been interesting but not even remotely a deal breaker. I'm so in for this release.

By the way, will there be any new special features and/or will the features of the previous release be ported over?

What are the chances that both of (all of?) the cuts could be included in this package? That way, people only need to own one copy of this on BD. Personally, I haven't seen it yet, but I would definitely buy it if multiple cuts could be included via either seamless branching, or even just a bonus disc of the original version and special features.

Great movie! I may have to double dip.

I'm curious about the removal/shortening of some of the questionable FX shots. Some of the CG blood detracted from certain scenes. Are these shots going to be corrected to look less computer-generated? Or will many just be excised completely?

According to Cliff on the standard DVD thread, they don't plan on doing that (or carrying over the previous extras for that matter). The idea is for the fans to have a makeshift 2-disc ultimate edition by combining both discs, rather than having you get rid of the previous release.

This is correct. When I work on these things I tend to view them as a) they should be all inclusive or b) they are an enhancement to what was already out there. With the new cut of Rambo, I felt that this was a 'b' situation. The original extras produced for the 2008 theatrical Blu-ray were very much about the overall collaborative filmmaking process, complete with new interviews from cast and crew. When it came time to talk about what we wanted to do for the director's cut release, I felt it was important to strip all of that away and really focus on Stallone's process as a director. It was my hope that people that already owned Rambo on Blu-ray would simply add the extended cut disc to their original release and make I would consider to be an excellent 2-disc set (certainly the cheapest option). And if you don't already own the original release, it's now available for around $12. Lionsgate has priced the extended cut aggressively and it should be found for under $15, so if you want the "2 disc set" it will ultimately run about $27.

Hey Cliff,

I see a new "box set" is coming, containing Rambo. The Bits says it's the theatrical in there. Is that true?

I was never a fan of the existing DVD cover artwork (I don't like the silver spines for some reason), so I'll be hawking my current set to get the new one, even if everything else is identical. I just want to know if I should sell my Rambo Blu or not/whether I need to buy this new one.

Cliff, a few quick questions:

Is the opening newsreel footage the same? I thought that was an effective opening.

Know anything about the missing/skipping frames when the mercs are walking thru the jungle? I always wondered what the deal was there, whether it was intentional or not...

Any changes to the exploding head shot? My preference is that it'd be removed completely...just came across as too comical, since it was obvious it was a dummy.

Am I understanding correctly that the new disc is not in the repackaged "complete" collection? Disappointing if that's the case.

Lol, me too. I'm actually looking forward to other reissues from LG, partially just to get rid of the silver spines!

You're right. They do have a silver spine. It doesn't bother me...never really payed attention.

The only spines I care about are the ones Rambo is snapping!

In other words - the idea is to suck more money out of people wallets ;)

This is really annoying. Any chances to fix it?

Rambo is an awesome, kickass action film, and this purchase is a no brainer.

It isn't just silver. I really just don't like any foil on my covers. They always look cool at first, but ultimately I would prefer a paper cover.

I've never noticed that. When exactly does that happen?

Haven't seen this movie yet but I've been close to getting it a couple times at Wal-Mart for $15. I think I will just wait for this release to come out though now instead.

I noticed it. It happens when the mercs are searching around the destroyed village. You can see them stutter across the screen. I actually thought something was wrong with either my copy of the movie, or my equipment.

Is that before or after John shows up with his arrows?

Man...that's weird hearing Rambo called John. Even though that is his first name.
