yup.

Pretty good review. Dont know why he refers to the mandarin track as the original language. Sounds like a good release to me.

It's a 25 GB disc, the movie likely takes up most, if not all of the disc.

I watched Ip Man 2 a few days ago, does anyone know if the entire audio mix is a dub? It seemed that, even the English speaking parts were slightly off with the video. It kinda irked me, anyone know?

they're doing 2 separate BD releases: standard edition with some extras & Collectors editions with all the extras. I think they simply took the standard edition BD and packaged a DVD with the remaining extras and slapped a "collector's edition" cover on it.

LOL...I know. But according to the review, the extras on disc 1 are presnted in 1080i. I dont recall anything on the HK or UK discs being in HD. (maybe the UK disc.)

This is correct according to the DVDActive review. After reading this, I'm glad I opted for the Universe release.

Here's the DVDBeaver review as well:

Re: Ip Man - 7/27/10 from Well Go USA

I found this release to be lackluster. Sure, WellGoUSA finally put a movie in 1080p, but there are some problems with this transfer. The colors seem muted and unnatural, especially when it comes to skin tones. There are some jaggies to be found and some disturbances whenever the camera moves make a move. I am very disappointed in this release and think that the 1080i transfers they did for the Shaw Brothers movies are better than this one.

Re: Ip Man - 7/27/10 from Well Go USA

It doesnt look that bad to me. I never picked up the HK disc but for $20, i think this is a better deal anyways. mine should be here any day now. beaver's review states that BD extras are HD but dvdactive says thery're SD? wierd.

BTW, just ordered Ip Man 2 from DDDhouse. I thought about waiting but Winter limited theatrical release then DVD/BD in the Spring 2011....waaaay too long.

I just watched a friend's copy of the WellGo version and it doesn't look as good as the Universe release. I thought the review here was spot on.

Interesting...Mine was exactly the same way.
(I haven't watched it yet, so I'm not sure if it locks up though. But its likely, the disc looks terrible.)

We're not alone. a few ppl on another forum r complaining as well. I just cleaned mine but nothing happened. it still locks up. I have a feeling it may just be a bad batch of discs. what should I do?

Re: Ip Man - 7/27/10 from Well Go USA

I'm working on my review of the Collector's Blu as we speak for the site I write on. My findings were fairly consistent with the consensus here, but not quite as harshly. The transfer isn't amazing but it is very watchable. I loved the movie though and I'll certainly be keeping this one, btw I didn't have any problems with my copy. The review should be up this evening sometime if anybody wants a slightly different view.

wow. couldn't they have just taken the universe transfer and maybe did a little tweaking here and there? As I have the universe dvd and there is no ghosting/motion bluring during camera movements at all. Sounds like they used a pal sourced transfer

I have the Universe DVD too and there is some blurring particularly when master Jin comes to challenge Ip Man at his house. I noticed that on Well Go's BD as well.

I watched this over the weekend (Well Go release), and there was horrible ghosting/smearing in all the dark scenes. It was incredibly distracting. Really disappointed.

the HK (and I think the UK one too) is region A. As far as I know...they don't have that issue.
