Only a few weeks away. How much better are we expecting this to look? I have the bare bones DVD release of the film, and while it looked good enough, it could be better. WB has a good track record with classics on Blu (i.e Wizard of Oz).
The lowest pre-order price I've seen is 20.99 at wbshop.com for WB Insider members (free to be one).

Three more non-Digibook re-releases last month, so we'll see. Nice to see at least a couple of the King Kong featurettes are in HD.

Everytime I see a colorized image of '33 King Kong...it makes me sick to my stomach. Again...WB gives us a winner. And finally...I can own it.

the differences between the prior DVD and bluray are definately different, but the blu still looks a bit fuzzy IMO.

Does it look better? Yes. By a significant margin? Not going by those screen caps.
I'm not sure if that says more about the Blu or just that the 2006 DVD looked pretty good.

Then again, it may be worth it for the extras.
This is one of those old movies that I don't think of as old at all. It's just so entertaining.

Was this film available on HD DVD in the UK or was it a different version? I can't remember.

"...my first impressions are that this looks much more pure - cleaner with stronger grain."
Exactly the kind of review I wanted to hear. Those screens make me want to watch it right now.
and that first Fay Wray shot needs to be my wallpaper

We premiered the new HD Transfer of this back in April on the second day of The 1st annual Turner Classic Film Festival at work. And it looked absolutely beautiful on our giat screen at work projected on our Christie CP 2230 DLP projector.
As i have mentioned several times on the forums before.
We also had the premiere screenings of the New HD Transfers that were used for the upcomming and recent bluray releases for A star is born (which has been on bd since june) Treasure Of sierra Madre(also looks absolutely stunning), Maltese Falcon(again very stunning) and the North American premiere of the newly restored Metropolis (abosolutely amazing picture, plus we had a live orchestra playing with it)

Any perceived deficiencies in the visual quaility of the image on this one can surely be attributed to the source as the negative is believed to no longer exist.

I can tell you from first hand viewing of the new HD digital transfer on our giant screen at work back in April that the visual quality looks stunning.
