Hopefully B&N will have a 50% off coupon around the time this comes out. I want that set!

Man, you guys get all the good stuff in your Gold Box. All I get are wrestling DVD's and I don't even watch wrestling. I ordered the Edge dvd a while back because I liked him back when I did watch years ago so Amazon assumes I am some huge rasslin' fan.

Just mark everything in your history as "do not use for recommendations" or "item was a gift", except for the stuff you want in your gold box.

I'm sure you guys have seen this already - but I'd thought I would share the trailer for the UCE. I remember seeing this at the Cinerama Dome when I was a kid and just crazy for the chariot race sequence. It has been one of my favourite movies ever since. I just can't see it on tcm anymore as I lose the definition of the sets and framing which, to me, are just as important as the script/acting. I liked the recent dvd xfer but this....well....kids like to use the word epic....This movie, to my mind, is the definition of that word:

I really wish that this was released at a theater, at least on a limited basis, to show off it's 6K transfer. I believe the Arclight in Hollywood has this capability...and it would be great to revisit the old Cinerama Dome.
Looks like they can't though as Glee 3D is taking up that screen

"The Digital Bits has the scoop on the release details of Ben-Hur, set for Blu-ray release next fall. The film has been newly restored at a resolution of 6K from the original 65mm camera elements. Apart from all previous DVD special features, this two-disc Ultimate Collector's Edition will include a reproduction of the personal diary that Charlton Heston kept during the production, complete with personal photos and his own sketches, as well as Charlton Heston & Ben-Hur: A Personal Journey, a new documentary (in HD) on Heston's experiences during the making of the film."
This photo is of the DVD Set. The BD set is on 2 discs.

I don't need all of that. Just give me an excellent looking bluray movie in a nice regular case. For about half the $44 price That's all.

Yeah, WB's been pretty shitty with some of their classic catalog releases, having only an expensive set loaded with worthless trinkets, with no other option. Maybe there'll be a pared-down store-exclusive set like there was with Citizen Kane.

Let's hope so. Thank goodness for B&M stores not wanting these bloated sets taking up precious shelf space...

Really? I'm pretty sure they've all had a non-deluxe box option. Sure, some of them may not come out until a couple months after the deluxe box, or may be retailer exclusive for a period of time (Wizard of Oz, Citizen Kane).

Ben-Hur (No Cardboard Fun)
However, I didn't see this edition on Amazon's US website yet. So, it is coming, but I think the US will be presented with the box set first. Surprisingly, the UK is importing the box set as it isn't available yet over there. Kinda weird. I guess they figured the box set wasn't as popular outside the US.
