If you've not read the original Persepolis graphic novels, I highly recommend you do so. As much as I enjoyed the film, I felt cheated out of a lot of really great stuff that was sacrificed for the sake of a concise run time and budget.

Thanks, I read the reviews from people that have read the novels about so much being left out. I haven't read the novels. The only reason I bought this at a low price is because it received an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Film. I collect movies that received an Oscar and/or Golden Globe nominations. I like to watch and compare. And to be truthful, if it hadn't of received the nomination, I probably wouldn't have bought it. I'm going to try and read them.

The bonus materials aren't mind-blowing, but I definitely recommend that you watch them anyway. It's weird, because of course the whole project is Marjane Satrapi's autobiography but I didn't feel like I "met" her until I saw the behind-the-scenes footage on the DVD.

I have also read her Chicken with Plums, about one of her uncles. I also recommend that graphic novel (to date, it has not been adapted to film).
