Re: The last Blu-ray you bought (Round 3)
Oh Lord, Jebus who art in R'lyeh, please forgive me for all the money I've been giving to Disney lately... -pray-
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i1...ps8dded119.jpg http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i1...ps365788ff.jpg ...especially when they keep releasing new editions that throw out old features left and right while only adding one or two new ones. :grumble: :thmbsdwn: Please accept, as penance, my purchasing of these other fine volumes... http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i1...ps684291c6.jpg http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i1...ps44c204c9.jpg ...and please make sure that Mr. Stallone gets the extra $18 that I spent on the Rocky set, since I couldn't make up my goddamned mind yesterday when it was on sale for $22. :brickwl2: Please also forgive my excessive use of emoticons. :rock2: :johnwoo: :chainsaw: :rock2:  Cthulhu fhtagn, amen. |

And that completes my obsessive Blu-ray collection of all ten (!) movies in this franchise that didn't really need more than three movies: Alien (1979) Aliens (1986) Predator (1987) Predator 2 (1990) Alien 3 (1992) Alien Resurrection (1997) Alien vs. Predator (2004) Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (2007) Predators (2010) Prometheus (2012) Haven't even seen Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem or Predators. Looking forward to being disappointed. |
Re: The last Blu-ray you bought (Round 3)
i liked Predators.

I couldn't bring myself to buy the AVP movies even as a completist, they're just too terrible. The Rodriguez movie isn't too bad though.

But then I actually sort of enjoyed Terminator Salvation and A Good Day to Die Hard, so what the hell do I know? (I fucking hated Terminator 3, though, and I find everything directed by Michael Bay to be completely detestable, so I do have some standards.) Anyway, one more recent addition... http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i1...ps6e939ec3.jpg Now if only Criterion can get their hands on Topkapi, I'll be in heist movie heaven. |

I'm trying to fight my bias against Robert Rodriguez, telling myself he was only the producer. The trailer looks nice, but the whole thing seems like such a fanboy remake of the first movie. But the cast is terrific and I know that Nimrod Antal is a very good director, so I'm sure I'll get at least something out of it. I'm just not expecting very many surprises.
I vaguely remember watching AVP years ago and thinking, "This isn't bad at all. What the hell is everyone's problem?" Of course, I wasn't judging it by the same standard as Alien or Aliens. It's a romp, no different than Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man or Freddy vs. Jason. I don't judge those the same way I judge Frankenstein or A Nightmare on Elm Street. By those standards, I thought AVP was fine, certainly not the unwatchable disaster that Paul Anderson's detractors would have had me believe.
