Christopher Guest Mockumentaries. When??

Personally, I would like to see Waiting For Guffman, Best in Show and A Mighty Wind be released in one super Christopher Guest Blu-Ray collection. Has there been any mention of these films getting the HD treatment in the near future?

I don't know, but bear in mind these were all shot on 16mm film, like Spinal Tap. Of course they're still worthy of the upgrade, but don't expect a revelation. Chasing Amy is another 16mm film, for comparison.

I didn't realize his later films were 16mm. Interesting.

For Your Consideration wasn't as good but they may as well release it at the same time.

That's okay. I'm not looking to upgrade. I just never got around to buying them on dvd so I figured I might as well just wait for Blu.

Waiting for A Mighty Christopher Guest in Consideration of the Best Shows on Blu-Ray. I would get these for sure.

Because of the mockumentary style they shot tons of film. They redo scenes over and over and since it is all unscripted the scenes are different ever time. He then sits and edits all of this into a 90 minute film. It would be too expensive to shoot all of that wasted film in 35mm. 16mm is cheaper and he then blows that final version up to 35mm for theatrical release.

It will look better on blu-ray, but 16mm has its limits so it will be grainy and won't be a major upgrade like some movies are. However, considering how much better footage as rough as the 16mm stuff in For All Mankind looked on BD I definitely want these on BD as well.

16mm also helps sell the "documentary" style.

Best in Show was on cable in HD the other day. Looked pretty decent, all in all. Not spectacular, not terrible. There was a lot of noticeable dirt and grit on the print, but I was wondering if that may have been intentional as well.

Surprising they didn't shoot the later films on digital HD. I actually really dig the look of 16mm on Blu-Ray though. It sports the 'good' kind of grain and is especially appropriate for these pseudo-doc films. On the topic, does anyone know why the Blu-ray of spinal tap dropped so dramatically in price? Is there another version planned?
