I can't believe Cameron thinks people will be so blown away by one friggin' movie that they'll run out and buy thousands of dollars worth of new gear to immerse themselves in the 3D theatrical experience at home. Hooboy. BTW, how many cuts is Avatar going to get? There's the original cut in theaters, now an 8-minute longer extended cut, and then later a further extended cut with 16 minutes extra. Is that all for now or am I missing any? |
Re: AVATAR Blu-ray - 4/22/10
the reason I heard why the IMAX cut of the extended cut is only 8 minutes is that the running time/actual print length is maxed out at that point. Supposedly another 8 minutes isn't physically possible for the IMAX print release, the Digital projection variants (IMAX-Digital, REAL-D [DLP/LCoS] though wouldn't have had this running time problem.

I don't know if Cameron is to blame, or if he is he's not alone. Other movies have been exclusive with 3D hardware too. It's as if the movie industry isn't ready yet for a real "launch" for 3D BD, but the hardware makers really want something to sell the players now.
"Avatar" was not the first, second, third and won't be last in terms of these TV/BD 3D release exclusives. P.S. Don't feed the Avatar/Cameron-hating troll. He's been warned about this shit many times throughout this thread already. |
Re: AVATAR Blu-ray - 4/22/10
"In the interview Cameron explains that while that sequence was cut late in the game, it still featured unfinished effects, which Fox spent “a million bucks or whatever” to finish."
Lol, it's all monopoly money to him at this point. Looking forward to the extra scenes... 8 minutes seemed a little underwhelming. |

well..that looks boring...

Re: AVATAR Blu-ray - 4/22/10
I like it. I'm glad they didn't just reuse the original cover with a "Collector's Edition" banner on it.

Re: AVATAR Blu-ray - 4/22/10
Great cover art. Simply and pretty classy.
The special features are sure to be bountiful, but I just hope there will be audio commentaries as well. I'd love one with the cast, as well as one with the guys from WETA |
Re: AVATAR Blu-ray - 4/22/10
blu-ray.com (ahem.. sorry) reports the deluxe edition is going to have some 45 minutes of additional film footage that hit the cutting room floor.

Awesome artwork. I'm down for this release since I skipped the first.

Re: AVATAR Blu-ray - 4/22/10
This will be mine! I wonder if the PQ will hold up to the original release, or if I should just dump the current disc...

Re: AVATAR Blu-ray - 4/22/10
No commentary? Boo! Cameron does great commentaries - it's a shame he didn't do one here. I would take a commentary over any of the other extras.

Re: AVATAR Blu-ray - 4/22/10
I passed on seeing the movie during its initial theatrical run, but my friend convinced me to check it out during the special edition re-release and while the story was predictable and the dialogue left a lot to be desired, I loved the look of the film and did genuinely enjoy watching it. I'll definitely pick this up, despite my initial reservations.

Still, I agree, I would have loved to have a traditional commentary. |
Re: AVATAR Blu-ray - 4/22/10
i don't know size and all that, but isn't 3 versions of 2.5+ hours on one Blu-ray disc still a lot of content that PQ might be affected? and will they be able to put a lossless DTS track on all 3?
|
Re: AVATAR Blu-ray - 4/22/10
Probably, but it'll all likely be branched into the main feature.
