They are probably trying to capitalize on the success of the Chipmunks sequel.

Now see, why would they do that? It has to be some error in the transfer, right?

I just finished watching this. While I can't say for certain there's a pitch issue, I can tell you my copy has what appears to be an encoding error at around 1:37.21. For about a second, there was a black and white checkerboard pattern, and it was repeatable.

Between the potential pitch issue and this, I can't recommend this disc even though aside the possible encoding problem and some print damage the transfer is quite strong.

I can't speak for the Australian release, but my trilogy set from Austria does not have the "pal speedup" issue. Also, from what I've read, there are two different boxed sets and they contain two different versions of Scream 1. One is the true Theatrical Cut and the other is an 'Edited Theatrical Cut'. Mine is definitely the full theatrical cut... no edits. Picture looks great and there are no sound issues.

Scream 2 is definitely cropped to 1.78:1. However, when I watched it I didn't feel distracted by it. It was a very nice transfer of the film. I hadn't seen that one is so long I had forgotten who the killer(s) were, so it was nice to watch it again.

I haven't watched Part 3 yet from the set. As far as I know it is in the proper aspect ratio. I'm sure it will look as good as the first two.

Of course if a proper US release is made, I'll buy them. Until then, this is a great set to watch. I own the dvd's, including the Unrated Director's Cut of the first one, but the blu-rays are a definite improvement over the dvd's, especially considering Scream 1 on dvd isn't anamorphic!!
