Clean blu-ray discs differently than SD?

The kids got a smudge (luckily not a scratch) on one of my blu-rays (the first one). Do I need something fancy to clean it?

Nah. Just use a damp cloth, wiping towards the edge, not in a circle. It should be fine.

I use a little water and one of them newfangled micro-fiber towels!

Re: Clean blu-ray discs differently than SD?

Since, Blu-ray discs are manufactured with a scratch resistant coating, unlike DVDs, it isn't not necessary, nor recommended to use any type of chemical solution, or water to clean them. They're very easy to clean without liquid being applied, by using a soft textured (non-abrasive), dry cloth only, to wipe them off.

Weird, but I don't think I've ever really cleaned a disc before, and I bet I've handled at least 20,000 in my life.

I generally use hot breath and my cotton shirt to remove any smudges.

Bleach works really well. Just dab a lot on a cloth and go really fast in circles.

I just use my shirt though.

It's sad when a Blu-ray disc gets scratched.

Smudges come off really quick, just use a shirt... LOL

They sell these at Costco:

I use them EVERYDAY...and they are M-I-G-H-T-Y FINE.

I mean, they really suck the HELL outta the wet stuff, remove streaks from everything on the car or around the house (including LCD TV's and all my electronic equipment), easily wipe away finger prints and muck from DVDs, and work especially well when polishing my guitars.

YOU GET ALL THIS...for ONLY $17.60!

That's a bag of 36, 16"x16" towels that you can wash & re-use almost FOREVER!!!

Hope this helps.

Go to the Vision Care section of your local drug store or megamart retail chain. You should be able to pick up a small microfiber eyeglass cleaning cloth for a couple bucks. That will work fine for cleaning DVDs and Blu-rays as well.

ds: Sorry it took so long to get back to you, but I (not unlike Fred Astaire's dinner jacket in, 'The Towering Inferno') was needed elsewhere.

Your life doesn't SUCK because you live around Walmarts & Sam's Club, or never seen a Costco!

The manufacturer of the towels is a company named 'EUROW' (like printed there on the towel label).

Here's the link:

EUROW

They're not as cheap on their website as they are at Costco, so you just might wanna skip this one.

However...All is not lost!

Josh always gives GREAT info, and BY GAWD - IT LOOKS LIKE HE'S DONE IT AGAIN!!!

If you want to buy a thingamabobby specifically for use on your DVDs & Blu-rays, that sounds like a fine idea, and that's what I'd do if I were you.

Exactly. Anything else is overthinking it.
