We could be seeing prices drop alot more at Target

In this article, it says that for the next seven weeks, Target is bulking up all their stores nationwide to compete with warehouse stores like Costco, Sams, BJs, ect. Blu-rays and dvds as well as alot more of other merchandise.

Yep...already taken affect at some stores and all they did was move the bargain BD titles and DVD TV two packs back there and give them starburst pricing sticker...no change in price though.

I remember a year ago, or so, when we all read about Wal-Mart doing a big push of blu-ray.

Didn't notice any changes at the 4 near me.

right...my Wal-Marts have very little shelf space devoted to BD. I read that they are neck and neck with Best Buy in BD sales, but mine just don't have much of a selection.

Need to check out my Targets, tho. There's 2 here that I can check out.

Re: Wal Mart - At mine the selection is pathetic while Best Buy has devoted like 3-4 rows. Haven't been to Target in a while, though.

Remember, Walmart's philosophy has always been to sell a ton of stuff cheaply. They can sell a lot of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and be competitive with Best Buy, whose consumers are likelier to be looking for more selective fare.

As for the topic of the thread, I hope for more competitive pricing to emerge from this while not necessarily expecting it.

My Wal-Mart has barely more than an endcap of selections. Pathetic. Target's aisle dwarfs them by comparison.

You mean six months ago.

The two WMs in my area have a shitty selection of discs. However, one further away in a "lesser" part of town has an entire aisle devoted to discs.

Seriously? My WM has three dedicated endcaps, some on a middle of the aisle shelf, and now last night I saw at least 30 different titles mixed in with the DVDs.

My WM has less blu's then this time a year ago.
They do have 2 endcaps but they are always just about empty and the $10 blu shelf never has any on it.
The one endcap is just new releases and most of those are always sold out.
there was an entire shelf fixture with blu's before in addition to the 2 endcaps.
Now no dedicated shelf fixture and only a few blu's mixed in with dvd's.

The WM near where I go to college has one end cap and about four rows dedicated to Blu-Ray. It's a piss-poor selection. I hate Wal-Mart anyway and would much rather shop at Target so this is great news for me.

This is a good idea in theory, but let's see it actually get implemented properly before getting our hopes up.

If there's one thing Target is good at, it's presenting their store in a clean and orderly way. I have no doubts they can implement a larger selection while maintaining a pleasant place to shop.

It's the one thing Wal-Mart fails at consistently. It doesn't matter how big their stores get, or even remodeled every 5 years, the store will always be a dump.

Depends on the Wal-mart store. I've seen older ones that were dumps but the Supercenter nearest me is clean, well-lighted, has spacious aisles, and polished floors. And it has been this way ever since it opened more than a decade ago. I prefer Target for various reasons, but not because of the condition of the local Wal-mart store.

A higher class dump than K-Mart will ever be.

In Walmart's defense, Target's customer base generally comes into their stores with cleaner footwear. I've never seen muddy work boots on a Target shopper; I couldn't count the Walmart shoppers wearing them.

One of the most important things Target does is they don't communicate via a store-wide PA system. Those walkie-talkies of theirs really make a difference. You can't be in any given Walmart for more than ten minutes without some obnoxious voice shouting for someone to pick up a phone or come to a particular department.
