Rumored blu-ray releases in 2010 from Paramount and Warner Bros
via blu-ray.com
The Digital Bits has followed up on its recent post covering rumored titles for 2010 and beyond (see blu-ray.com, November 30), and is now reporting that its industry sources "have checked in again with still more word" confirming catalog titles from Warner, Paramount and Dreamworks "on the way to Blu-ray next year" including no fewer than five Steven Spielberg movies.
The titles mentioned include:
Paramount/Dreamworks:
Collateral (Michael Mann, 2004)
Indiana Jones Trilogy (Steven Spielberg, 1981-1989)
Saving Private Ryan (Steven Spielberg, 1999)
Shrek (Vicky Jenson & Andrew Adamson, 2001)
Shrek 2 (Kelly Asbury, Andrew Adamson and Conrad Vernon, 2004)
Stardust (Matthew Vaughn, 2007) [already up for preorder in the UK and Germany - see blu-ray.com, December 9]
The War of the Worlds (Steven Spielberg, 2005)
Warner:
Absolute Power (Clint Eastwood, 1997)
Kelly's Heroes (Brian Hutton, 1970)
Dr. Zhivago (David Lean, 1965)
Excalibur (John Boorman, 1981)
The Maltese Falcon (John Huston, 1941)
Mars Attacks! (Tim Burton, 1996)
National Lampoon's Vacation (Harold Ramis, 1983)
National Lampoon's European Vacation (Amy Heckerling, 1985)
Poseidon (Wolfgang Petersen, 2006)
The Rookie (Clint Eastwood, 1990)
Where Eagles Dare (Brian Hutton, 1968)
Naturally, there are no release details about these titles. However, some of them (such as 'Where Eagles Dare' and 'Kelly's Heroes', and the two 'National Lampoon Vacation' movies) would be natural candidates to be released as Warner's recently announced double features
According to The Digital Bits, Warner will also release 'Friends: the Complete First Season' on Blu-ray in 2010. This is a title which the studio recently said it didn't have "planned for 2010 at this point"
As usual, all of the above is unofficial until there is a formal announcement from the studios concerned.

Indiana Jones trilogy, finally! Also interested in Saving Private Ryan and Collateral

I'll pick up Collateral, The Indiana Jones Trilogy, Saving Private Ryan, War of the Worlds, Dr. Zhivago, both National Lampoon Vacation movies, and possibly Mars Attacks.
The idea of the Friends sets coming out individually is not welcoming. I won't double dip for the show if it's going to be single sets.

Friends in Blu... crap... Wouldn't even be tempted except the video quality of the DVDs leaves much to be desired... and I can think of a lot of other series that originally broadcast in HD that don't have Blu just DVD versions... oh well.. they will do whatever they think they can sell and make money from us.... but Friends will have to be at a very lucritive price point to get me to bite....
P.S. Couldn't find the link, but did hear a rumor of Back to the Future Trilogy in Blu in 2010....

Wasn't Apollo 13 also mentioned in the digital bits blurb about catalogs that are supposed to be making their way to Blu in 2010?

Can watch Apollo 13 on Hd-dvd right now. Universal HAS to finally bring some big catalog titles out this year. They're getting ridiculous already!

The bits had also mentioned a good chance of Jaws coming out on Blu next year. That would be #1 on my list.
I'm not so sure I'm thrilled about the older scifi/horror titles coming out on Blu, such as the original War of the Worlds. I read the Blu review of the original The Day the Earth Stood Still and maybe to much detail is not a good thing. Do I really want to see the wires holding up stuff? I don't want to see all the movie magic revealed in these cases.

The War of the Worlds (Steven Spielberg, 2005)
National Lampoon's Vacation (Harold Ramis, 1983)
National Lampoon's European Vacation (Amy Heckerling, 1985)
^ That's it for me, and none of them would be priority.
And I'm only listing European Vacation since I'll probably wait to see if all three are sold in a cheap set.
