FYI, regarding Psycho, in Australia they released a complete collection which includes 1-4 (1-3 have all the same bonus features as the US releases) and the remake on Blu-ray as well as Bates Motel TV movie and The Psycho Legacy on DVD.

Definitely in for Psycho IV, it'd be nice if the Bates Motel TV movie was included as well.

That would be a cool bonus.

Session 9 is one of the few horror movies made this century that is truly creepy.

Shout! has just announced a new line called Shout Selects, which looks to be collector's editions with numbered spines.

The first three titles out the gate will be CEs of The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension, John Carpenter's Elvis (both 8/16), and Midnight Run (8/23).

Editions to follow in Sept include Road House and both Bill & Ted movies.

Cool. I am all over the Elvis release. This will be its first release stateside, correct? I was near importing the blu but forgot about this upcoming release.

How many editions of Road House can be done? Pass.

I already have B&T but will get it if the release seems worth it. Bogus Journey hasn't been released on blu yet and I still have my free Pizza Hut copy of it on dvd. My son and I watched it not too long ago and it was still fun. It would be awesome if they included the complete cartoon series of B&T and both movies in one package.

Same.
I might get Road House if it has decent extras.

Shout! released a Blu Ray a few years ago but it quickly went OOP. I was hoping they would of included new interviews with Carpenter and Kurt Russell, but it looks like it's the same disc.

Hopefully Bill & Ted is a double feature.

That'd definitely make it an essential purchase for me.

I'm very sorry indeed to hear this! It's a not-so-subtle attempt to cash in on Twilight Time and Code Red's insane model... What this means, of course, will be artificially-inflated prices due to evil, evil scalpers buying out most, if not all, of these "limited" editions to flip at ridiculous prices.

And it will conveniently give Shout an excuse to uptick prices...

It would be GREAT if in so doing, they'd get a good compressionist and give us stellar encodes without the compression artifacts which seem to have been omnipresent in most of their releases to date.

Here's hoping...

Hmmm, Well, i already have the fantastic buckaroo BD from Arrow and I've had the Elvis BD for more than 5 years now - region B - and I'm sure the same extras are on this disc, too.

Now Midnight Run, on the other hand? Time to retire the HD-DVD.

Amazing news - I shit you not, on the weekend I was just bitching to a friend that Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey not being released on blu-ray yet was complete bullshit, because it is just as good as the first. EXCELLENT!

I've never paid as much for a Shout/Scream Factory title as I have for something from Twilight Time. I don't own any Code Red titles that I'm aware of. Plus Shout/Scream haven't done the limited edition model with their releases so I doubt they'll start now. It sounds like they're just going to be numbered like Criterion or something.

Since Shout has the rights to Death Wish II, I wonder if they have the rights to any of the remaining Death Wish sequels. I do think it's strange that they're releasing a new special edition when FOX/MGM just released it on BD a little less than 4 years ago.

Unfortunately Michael Winner, the director of DWII, died in 2013. So I wonder if he had any pre-recorded material like interviews or commentary before he passed.

Bronson, Winner, Jill Ireland and a few other supporting actors are dead. Even Menahem Golan, the Producer, died 2 years ago. So I'm curious what kind of supplemental material there is. Probably old archived stuff?

8/2/16

*NEW TITLE REVEAL!**

We're thrilled to start the month by announcing that the classic 1978 INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS remake will be getting the "Collector's Edition" Blu-ray treatment! Street date is August 2nd.

Specs and extras (both new and existing) will be announced sometime in June. The newly-designed front-facing artwork you see here is final (not pictured is the reverse wrap image which will showcase the original theatrical poster art.)

If only it was Abel Ferrara's "Body Snatchers". I have no real issues with the blu ray I already own for the 78 version.

Yeah, pretty sure if they were going to be limited they would state that...

Just yesterday, I stumbled across this Amazon listing for a "Shout Selects" edition of Big Bad Mama supposedly already on the market (!). Went to their website and found nothing to confirm it, but the warning on the Amazon listing gave me serious pause, especially for $24.98:

Important Product Information - This product is manufactured on demand in the BD-R format. It will play in nearly all leading Blu-ray players that have the latest firmware updates. Microsoft Xbox One, however, does not currently support BD-R playback.
I really, really hope they're not going this route for some of the other titles they just announced, but the very creation of a separate brand banner under which to release titles that are every bit the equal of other titles released in their main line just smells fishy.

I wouldn't trust anything until I see it on Shout's website or one of their social media pages personally. I doubt they'd go out of their way to make an announcement if they just planned to dump these titles as burn on demand releases.

Agreed, but they have already done one, apparently. Mind you, it's perhaps not as vaunted a title as the ones in this new batch.

What makes you think that's a 'Shouts Selects' release? It doesn't say that on the page anywhere.

They changed the artwork on the listing. Not long after I brought this up, actually.

This was the original. And yes, I know it looks like unfinalized artwork, but it still raised a red flag:

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psw83uuk7l.jpg

The new artwork on the Amazon listing makes no mention of "Shout Select" (although it still looks like temp art), so perhaps this potential new BD-R line will just be for older, lesser titles? Frankly, if that is the case, they should consider lowering the price a bit . . .

Brian T 05-03-16 07:12 PM

re: The One and Only Shout! Studios (and Scream Factory!) Blu-ray Thread

Posted the concern on a couple of Shout's 'Select' listings and a rep responded to clarify that the new titles will indeed (and rather obviously, really) be pressed. BIG BAD MAMA, apparently, was a 'Shout Select' title before being rebranded (this afternoon, perhaps?) a 'Shout Exclusive'. The rep didn't seem to know much about that line, per se, except to say that if they did do more of them they'd likely only be offered through Amazon and not via Shout's own site. Still, kind of a shame to see old drive-in gems like that going the bare-bones BD-R route, so hopefully they'll rethink it, or at least offer them at more reasonable prices.
