Is the upcoming version of The Phantom of the Opera starring Robert Englund any good? I've never seen it but it sounds kind of interesting to me and the cover is cool.

No, it was terrible.

^I agree, it is terrible.

I hope they fix Dog Soldiers' sound. The 5.1 track on both the DVD and the BD is fucked up. I always listen to the 2.0 version when watching it.

It seems to have gotten some positive reviews (including the DVD Talk one). Maybe I'll rent it.

I wouldn't go as far as to say it's horrible, but it's not very memorable.

I'm surprised Shout! didn't make this a double feature with its pseudo-sequel Dance Macabre.

Well according to the sh** release thread, no one there will give a crap about any of those extras anyways. ;)

As for me, that's a pretty awesome stacked release.

I'll probably only watch The Original Opening Bank Robbery Sequence and Scoring the Escape, as far as those special features are concerned.

glad they carried over pretty much everything from the Special Edition dvd. Are they phasing out the blue bars on the top of their slip covers? That would be pretty cool.

DVD Movie Guide reviews the new EFNY:

All the darkness affected definition as well. Sharpness was an issue, as quite a lot of the film seemed rather soft. When the movie boasted better lighting, clarity improved as well, but even the brighter shots could be inconsistent.

No issues with jagged edges or shimmering occurred, and I saw no edge haloes. A few minor specks and marks appeared, but most of the movie seemed clean.

Colors were decent. This wasn’t a movie with a big, broad palette; occasional instances of lively hues emerged, but it usually the film went with green or blue tints. These looked acceptable but lacked much breadth. Overall, this was an up and down image that was held back mostly due to softness.

How did the 2015 “Collector’s Edition” Blu-ray compare to the 2010 Blu-ray? Audio seemed identical, but visuals offered a step backward. While the original Blu-ray had some issues with softness, it seemed better defined than the 2015 release, and it also was cleaner. Again, the 2015 disc didn’t look bad, but I thought the 2010 release offered superior visuals.

re: The One and Only Shout! Studios (and Scream Factory!) Blu-ray Thread

I watched my review copy last night and would agree with most of those comments. Some of the softness is simply inherent to the anamorphic lensing. This was a low-budget feature, after all, and it's unlikely to ever look better than this. I can't say for sure if it's any better or worse than the 2010 release, but I will say there was one odd anomaly: a thin blue line, located in the middle of the screen, that sporadically appeared for a few seconds at a time. Not sure if this is a problem on the negative or what (looks like a vertical lens flare, if that's such a thing).

Well, what was the point of putting all that effort into a re-release if it doesn't even match the 2010 edition in clarity or detail? Seems like an easy pass, and that effort could have been better spent. There are so many other catalog titles in need of a Blu release. This seems to be one double-dip which I'll have no problem avoiding...

I'm still going to pick up the new version of Escape From New York since I don't have the first release. It sounds like the transfer is still good and the extras sound like it'll be a worthwhile set.

Yeah, I noticed that as well. I'll have to look at it again, there was one obvious spot IIRC when Snake follows the one guy who starts banging on the manhole covers.

Just posted my review of Class of 1984, if anyone's interested. Seemingly everyone, everywhere was really impressed by the presentation except for me. I'd like to think I'm not wrong, though.

Ghoulies double feature review. The first movie has an embarrassingly bad presentation, the audio is awful all around, and it's kind of a drag that the R-rated footage cut out of Ghoulies II haven't been reincorporated back into the movie (although the gore footage is in HD, which is great!).

The Sentinel is coming soon via the Scream Factory Facebook page:

We are beyond thrilled today to report that we will be bringing the 1977 cult classic chiller THE SENTINEL to Blu-ray for the first time in the U.S. and Canada!

Planned release is for August. This often underrated, overlooked and shocking film from Director Michael Winner (Death Wish) has been highly-requested from fans over the years and is also a personal favorite for some of us here too.

Based on Jeffrey Konvitz's best-selling novel and featuring special make-up effects by Dick Smith (The Exorcist) the film sports an impressive number of well-known actors ever assembled together in horror film history including Chris Sarandon (Fright Night), Christina Raines (Nightmares, The Duelists) Christopher Walken (The Dead Zone), Ava Gardner (Earthquake, The Cassandra Crossing), Jeff Goldblum (The Fly), Jerry Orbach (Law & Order), Beverly D’ Angelo (National Lampoon’s Vacation), Sylvia Miles (The Funhouse), Burgess Meredith (Rocky, Burnt Offerings), Eli Wallach (The Magnificent Seven), Martin Balsam (Psycho), Tom Berenger (Major League), Jose Ferrer (The Caine Mutiny), John Carradine (The Howling, Shockwaves), Deborah Raffin (God Told Me To) and William Hickey (Tales From The Darkside: The Movie, Prizzi’s Honor).

No details to announce about upcoming extras but we can tease that we do have a special one already banked that will be a real treat for die-hard fans.

We hope you’re pleased with this exciting addition to our Scream Factory family and we have more new – as just as exciting - title announcements planned throughout the Spring and Summer so stay tuned!
I don't know if I've ever seen this film or not but it sounds like it could be good. I generally enjoy religious themed horror films.

It's one of the most memorable horror films from the 1970s. I wish Arrow had gotten the rights, they would strike a new film transfer. A German Blu-ray exists of questionable quality.

I'm still in awe of the quantity and quality of the extras on From a Whisper to a Scream, including two feature-length documentaries. It's a new transfer as well, something you don't see all that much with Scream Factory's licensed titles. I've written a review, if anyone's interested.
