The movie takes on a new dimension once you realize Jack's the sidekick.

Being one of my favourite movies, I was excited to finally pick up the new Road Games Blu-Ray. First off, the transfer. A touch disappointed, although I believe the original negative was lost a long time ago, so they had to work with what they had. To me, it looks slightly better than the previous Blu-Ray that was released (I think it was either a German or an Australian Blu-Ray), but it's still not great. Personally, I actually prefer the color scheme that was used in the old Anchor Bay DVD release, and that remains my favorite way to watch the film. That said, to touch on some of the Special Features...

The new interview with Stacy Keach is very good. At a lean thirteen minutes, it's short but sweet. BUT, if you've previously seen any other previously made Special Features, it's basically just a retread of the previous interviews done. Keach says the same stories...and they're obviously repeated on the Blu-Ray features like the "Extended Interviews from Mark Hartley's Documentary Not Quite Hollywood"...So if you have the Anchor Bay DVD, you're really not missing much...The Script Read was interesting but I never finished it (although I heard it differs quite a bit from what was eventually filmed, as their were many budget cuts)...The original Richard Franklin commentary is pretty fantastic (the moderator does a great job of keeping him on task)...I dabbled with the new commentary and will definitely finish it at some point soon, as it had some great anecdotes...The original documentary (20 minutes in length), "Kangaroo Hitchcock: The Making of Road Games" is a solid watch, but again, basically repeating the exact same stories featured in the other extras...

Overall, I'm satisfied with the package...Just wish the transfer was better...So if you don't own the Anchor Bay DVD, I'd definitely recommend picking this up...But if you do, don't expect a giant step up with this particular Blu-Ray...

Don't know how many Road Games fans are out there, but for those that haven't seen it, it's an excellent movie...and Stacy Keach and Jamie Lee Curtis are just sublime...

Yep.
Spoiler:
Rewatching the climactic battle is even better when you realize Jack is out of it for the majority of the fight.
.

For my money this is one of the Australian exploitation greats, and I'd highly recommend the region-free Umbrella Blu-ray — which beat Shout to the punch by a couple of years — as an affordable alternative which wisely incorporates the original poster art onto its sleeve, instead of that weird, spatially imbalanced . . . collage that Shout commissioned. It also has most of the same special features except the new Keach interview (which sounds redundant), second audio commentary, script read and music demos. It's also from a new 4K master, and it consistently sells for about half the price of the Shout edition.

Might give Road Games a blind buy. Sounds interesting to me. That new artwork for The Wizard is pretty great too.

I don't suggest it. It's an acquired taste, one I have not acquired. It's quirky and dreadfully slow, and contains very little suspense or tension.

All the more reason for folks on the fence to get the Umbrella version for about half the price or less. And better artwork.

The new 4K transfer on the Rock 'n' Roll High School Steelbook is pretty great and worth getting even if you own Shout's older BD. The primary new extra is a 70-minute behind-the-scenes documentary with Allan Arkush leading the way.

I also saw Scream Factory announced on Facebook that they’re reissuing the double feature of Deathstalker/Deathstalker II. Limited to a thousand copies. Might grab that as I missed it the first time it was released.

That would be phenomenal but I doubt. Kurt Russell even has a story credit on the film.

what do you mean another? Didn’t they do that on DVD? He’s dead, so I doubt they did a new commentary...

Not for Escape from L.A. - they only did one for Escape from NY. Who's dead? Carpenter? Since when?

Posting on a movie messageboard for 20 years while thinking John Carpenter is dead, when he's still alive and kicking, is grounds for a lifetime ban.
