Re: Warner DoublePacks 2/23/10: “Analyze This/Analyze That” and more
I watched both Analyze This and Analyze That last night. These definitely aren't reference but I was decently happy with them.
Analyze This: Probably a 3/5, looked a little like Wall Street and was pretty soft and dull in some areas. Some shots, however, looked really nice. The print was in good shape and I didn't notice any digital manipulation. Certainly competent.
Analyze That: 3.5/5, though some areas were at least a 4/5. This looked decidedly better than the first film. There's a lot of detail and, although shot with a similarly drab pallet, this appears more cinematic. The only problem I saw was some minor possible digital manipulation. The movie seemed light on grain and there were some shots that seemed kind of edgy.

So, if I'm reading you correctly... You saw Grumpy Old Men/Grumpier Old Men at Walmart, but it didn't have a slipcover. Is that correct?

Miss Congeniality double pack just dropped to $8.99 on Amazon. That was cheap enough for me.

Upon further investigation, I own both DVD versions of the first movie. I haven't opened the Special Edition yet. If I were to keep one of them, is there any reason to keep the SE over the standard DVD? It might be easier to unload the unopened copy.

Finally got to watch Spies Like Us after so many years. Nice seeing it with OAR. Kind of bummed it had to be paired with Funny Farm on one disc. But of well, for $14.99 for both, I guess that's not such a bad thing. Too bad Landis didn't offer up any commentary though. I would have liked that.

The only one he did was for Kentucky Fried Movie, probably because Zucker, Abrahams, and Zucker talked him into it.

Snagged the Grumpy Old Men/Grumpier Old Men combo for $15 at Best Buy. I had Grumpier Old Men on DVD sitting nearby so I compared the DVD to the Blu-Ray. Blu-Ray is definitely better looking, but what I suspected about the old DVDs was confirmed: they were open matte.
The DVDs have more image above and below than the widescreen version. The edges are slightly cropped, but no more than any other 1.85:1 movie trimmed to 1.78:1.
Basically, anyone who hasn't gone to Blu-Ray but loves these movies can treat them like a non-anamorphic disc and just zoom the picture if they have to have widescreen.

Re: Warner DoublePacks 2/23/10: “Analyze This/Analyze That” and more
Picked up the Grumpy Old Men double feature this evening at Best Buy, and noticed something strange. All of the Warner Blu-ray double features had the white security tape at the top of the cases (under the shrink wrap) except Grumpy Old Men. I checked all the copies in the store, and they were all the same. They were shrink wrapped with the "First Time On Blu-ray" sticker on the front, but no tape.
I thought it was odd, but picked it up anyway. The disc, etc... seems fine.
Anyone that's picked this double feature up notice that? Wondering if Warner forgot to put the security tape on a batch of these, or if all the Grumpy Old Men double features are like that. This is the first time I've seen this double feature in my area. They have shelf space for it, but its never in stock.
