That was a couple months ago and I still haven't received a replacement. I've sent a couple more emails asking for status but haven't gotten a response.

Joan of Arc steelbook set is amazing. 3 cuts of the movie, original danish title cards and an impressive tome of a booklet to go with it.

My only quibble is that I rather like the Voices of Light audio track on the Criterion DVD. Would have liked to have it on this release. Looks far better than the Criterion DVD though.

I ended up getting a refund. After the refund, they sent me a Metropolis poster in a tube they had reinforced and it arrived in good shape. The tubes they use are too small in diameter and too thin. Any injury to the tube damages the poster and the damage gets repeated along the tightly rolled poster. It’s a shame as I would like to have the other posters.

Personally, I'd rather see this in the main HD Talk thread (similar to the Arrow Video thread), even if a lot of their stuff is region coded. This part of the forum is so dead anymore. Even the recent Asian cinema discussion made more sense in Movies than here, and most of the movies discussed there are discs!
That said, the MoC KWAIDAN seems to pale somewhat in comparison to Criterion in terms of extras, but that ZU edition will certainly be on my radar, and as with so many UK releases of Hong Kong gems, the mono audio tracks (i.e. the CORRECT audio tracks) appear to be included, and I see the continued erasure of Weinstein procurer Bey Logan from releases of these important films is still in full swing (although Logan's commentary on the old HK Legends DVD was shared with Tsui Hark himself, I"ll take Tony Rayns over Logan any day). The U.S. is so far behind on distributing classic HK films in definitive editions, and most of the Hong Kong Blu-rays for these films drop the mono tracks completely in favor of horrible 5.1 and 7.1 mixes that severely compromise any enjoyment of the films (and yet they were frustratingly praised by certain folks here who've thankfully taken that shit elsewhere :) ). |

It's not one of my favorites, but That Millionaires Express package is amazing. It's a good thing I don't really keep track of the UK>US currency exchange, because the amount of money I spend on these vs. other releases is ridiculous. Especially when you figure in the astronomical increases in shipping over the last year.
Anyone have an opinion on Wild Search? I've never seen it, (but will probably buy it either way). |

According to one of the fans over on br.com who helps out with these releases, it's actually an 8 movie set. I'm not super familiar with Joseph Kuo, but 7 Grandmasters, Mystery of Chess Boxing and 18 Bronzemen would have to be included, right? |

Nice to see the Joseph Kuo movies getting the treatment. I'm betting there's a ton of newer HK film fans who know nothing of him an his work. Eureka's 'tech specs' pop-up lists these as Hong Kong shows, but I think more of them are Taiwan productions, which was generally Kuo's home base. But 40-plus years later, no one really cares. :) Looks like I can add another batch of old Hong Kong DVDs (with bad prints, bad transfers, etc) to the donation pile.
FULL ALERT is a phenomenal piece of work, from the last truly great era of Hong Kong action thrillers, and Ringo Lam at his absolute peak, really. The car chase and shootouts are spectacular (the editor of the original trailer below apparently agreed). His next two HK pictures, THE SUSPECT and VICTIM are both very good, but not like this one. He still made slick movies after that, and some anthology contributions (TRIANGLE and SEPTET), but he was painting by numbers, in part thanks to his Van Damme movies. |

Another solid-looking release, and nice to finally see the original posters put to use on the reverse (kinda wish they were on the front though, but I know they're kinda tethered to Darren Wheeling's art now, much like 88 Films is to Kung Fu Bob). The original posters for both of these films are so evocative of the HK poster style of the era. Not sure I get Bobby Samuels being on that commentary since his HK films came years later, but he was supposedly a bodyguard for Sammo so there's probably some stories there.
The fights with villain Frankie Chan in PRODIGAL SON are excellent, especially the big finale. Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao actually reprised their characters from this in 40-episode TV series in 2006/7. I assume the Sammo, Yuen, Frankie interview archival interview is probably from this one, from one of the old UK releases.
