Wrong. It's there. (Well, I can't say for sure that it's present on your disc, but it is on mine!)

Okay, I put the blu-ray back in and now the Japanese option is there!

I swear, the first time I put the disc in it wasn't - there was just a blank space in between the english and french options in the menu, where now there's the japanese option that wasn't there before. What a weird little glitch.

The Blu-ray disc uses seamless branching for each version of the movie, so you can't switch between English and Japanese mid-stream. (The Japanese version has the original open/closing titles; the English version has the Americanized set.)

The weird thing is that when I picked Japanese audio and then hit 'play with introduction', it went to the English version anyway. I don't know if I accidentally pressed something weird or what in between, but... When I tried re-selecting Japanese from the main menu and went to just 'play', it worked fine.

This looks so fucking amazing in HD that I now need all other Miyazakis on blu-ray, STAT!

Any idea if/when Disney has plans to do so?

Seems like they released some Miyazaki stuff on DVD recently to coincide w/ Ponyo. Sadly..no Blu of them...yet..

Nausicaa is getting an HD remastering in Japan this year, so expect it to be the first to be released over here.

Good to hear, although it's probably the least in need of it. Castle in the Sky is perhaps the shoddyist transfer, wheras Spirited Away and Kiki are some of the most visually impressive. Hopefully they'll all be quick to follow.

My LG BH200 can't handle this disc without weird glitches and problems. It also has issues with the Star Trek original series discs that use seamless branching. I'm sticking with the PS3 for this one.

This is one I would have liked a BD-DVD-Digital Copy combo for. Kids would love to have it available on the Touch.

Same with the regular dvd as well. And thankfully the subtitles are acurate, no i don't speak japanese but i put the english version on with subs, and there were many parts that differed.

but with probably not with the commentary track that's on the Japanese DVD edition - which I'd love for Disney to translate for us US fans

Popped this in over the weekend. While I would have preferred a lossless audio track on the OLT, it still is an enjoyable experience in high-def. Hope there is more coming to the States soon!

Re: any news from Disney on the release of 'Ponyo by the Sea'?

Just picked this up a couple days ago. Beautiful picture! Anyway, was wondering if the load times between menus are normal? I know some Blu Rays take a while to load up, but I'm experiencing ~30 sec. load times when switching from the main menu to the extras menu, when going from the initial trailers that open the disc to the actual main menu, etc. Is this supposed to happen?

Depends what player you are using. My Curtis Mathes 130 took about 30 seconds to load up, but the PS3 was a bit quicker.

Re: any news from Disney on the release of 'Ponyo by the Sea'?

I'm using a standalone Sony player (the S560). I'm not talking so much about the inital load time though. What I'm wondering about is load times between menu screens and such. For instance, when the disc first boots up, it plays some trailers by default. If I hit the "top menu" button to bypass these, there's a blank screen for a bit, then a loading screen with little bubbles that lasts a while before the top menu actually comes up. Same thing happens when I hit the option to go from the main menu to the extras menu. I've never seen between-menu loads like that for a disc, so I'm just wondering if it's normal.
