Public Enemies (Mann) -- December 8th

Universal Home Video has announced 1-disc DVD ($29.98), 2-disc DVD ($34.98) and 2-disc Blu-ray ($36.98) releases of Public Enemies for the 8th December. All 3 versions will include a commentary with Director Michael Mann, and a Larger Than Life: Adversaries featurette. The 2-disc editions will also include 5 featurettes ("Michael Mann: Making Public Enemies", "On Dilliger's Trail: The Real Locations", "Larger Than Life: Adversaries", "Criminal Technology", "Last of the Legendary Outlaws"), and a digital copy of the film. Universal hasn't revealed the package artwork yet I'm afraid, but we'll bring you that shortly. Stay tuned.
No artwork as of yet, but odds are it'll likely feature Depp and a Tommy gun. |

Well, considering the movie was pretty bad, and the camera work was terrible, pass. Did you know that "Dexter" is shot with the same kind of camera (Sony F23) as this film? The sad part is Dexter looks pretty good, where as this is shit.

I didn;t like the camera shots during the biggest action scene. Other than that I really liked the movie. I'll be picking it up.

I thought it was another good addition to Mann's work, albeit a little more run of the mill from a guy that's mastered the cop and robbers genre. The DTS track on this sould sound damn nice. Looking forward to picking this up.

I would be on the line with getting this but since I have a pretty nice extra part in it I want it as soon as possible. I'm not a big fan of Mann but he is the only director I've ever had. :)
How come Britain is getting it November 2? It's Universal and I think their blu-rays are generally region free. If so I will get it from Amazon UK. |

I never caught this in theaters, and I've heard mixed things about the film. I don't like the "look" of the film that I glimpsed from trailers, so I don't think I'll blind buy this unless I find it for a really good price.

High remarks on the film and the Bluray. This is the UK disc they are reviewing, but looking at the audio and subtitle options, it will be exactly the same disc released next month in the US. |

Just finished it.
took me three times to get through the entire movie. Was too long and mostly a bore. I'm not sure what Mann was going for here, I felt like I've seen all this before. Plus I thought any scene that was at night or just dark looked terrible, dull and muddy. Any scene in the day or with substantial light looked terrific. |

Target and Best Buy are saying they have exclusive 2 disc version BDs. But every copy is 2 disc. Are we to assume that the second disc has different content in different stores?

are you sure this is actually a 2 disc blu-ray?
the one I have has all the extras on the one disc no second disc. Must just be a download copy. |

Universal is getting cryptic as to what is 2 disc these days. GI Joe has 1 blu ray for the film and the second is a DVD with the special features and the digital copy. Transformers 2 has 2 rays for the movie and special features. So who knows what their game plan is when they label the sets "2 disc special edition".

The Target ad and the Best Buy ads say 2 disc. And the promo pics of the cover says 2 dics. I'm going to bet it's just that BB and Target have a different 2nd BD disc.

Has anyone found a specially marked BD at Best Buy?
Someone went to get me it as a gift, and they claimed there were no differently marked packaged claiming to have Best Buy exclusive footage. |

I was at Target this morning. There was a "Target Exclusive" sticker also, detailing that there was a production booklet inside. The booklet appears to be inside the DVD case itself since it is not attached to the outside or anything like that.
Does anyone happen to have pictures of this so we can compare with it's worth it to give up on the Best Buy bonus disc? |

Bestbuy has an exclusive bonus disc, but not in all copies, just those marked with a sticker. Target has an extra booklet packed in marked copies. otherwise, regular version is single disc.

Just came from Best Buy. As mentioned, they are marked with a sticker. None of the Blu-rays had the sticker.

My Blu-ray had a sticker on the slipcover. The website has it for $18.99 too. Best Buy Customer Service emailed me a $20 digital coupon for some trouble I had with the website, so I used that and got the 3-disc Best Buy Exclusive Blu-ray for free! :)

My Best Buy had a large amount of Public Enemies, but only a handful had the bonus disc.

I inadvertantly bought a copy without the bonus disc. Is the bonus disc worth going back to the store for? Anyone know the running time of the disc?

I haven't watched it, but just popped it in to check the length. It's 31:23. It is, however, a DVD. So if you're expecting a Blu-ray bonus disc, you're not going to get it.
