B & W classics from WB in the works

From Home Media Magazine:
...Next, Warner hopes to bring some of the Marx Brothers black-and-white comedies to Blu-ray, as well as films starring Errol Flynn, Betty Davis and Humphrey Bogart. Look for the 1941 The Maltese Falcon on Blu-ray from Warner in 2010, Feltenstein said.

Seconded. Wonder if they're thinking of doing up Sea Hawk in HD (the Errol Flynn picture mentioned)?

What about CITIZEN KANE, the most obvious choice?

Would love some more inexpensive B&W classics on the format. Although, I may rent and hold out for the eventual sets to come a year or two later.

WB,

You promised King Kong last year. Please follow through in '10.

Thanks.

While I would give my right nut for Kane in 1080p, I feel that some of the grittier noirs actually benefit from the lower resolution and blurriness or SDdvd.

SD almost never captures the exactness of contrast of B&W photography. In fact, I'd say the lack of color is when the distinctions between SD and HD are at the most obvious.

I was just about to buy the Maltese Falcon dvd, but I put it back because I figured I'd wait for blu. Yay!

A Night in Casablanca is available now to stream in HD on Netflix and looks quite nice. Wouldn't mind rebuying all the Warner catalog on Blu-ray.
