People don't like yellow subtitles? News to me. White subtitles often get obscured by the background (more common in b&w movies than color, though).

I can pretty clearly recall them being yellow in theaters. I may be wrong, but I'm almost willing to bet they were.

Not when they're done right and have a slight black outline - Criterion does a lot of subtitled films and they're all in white and no one complains. I guess yellow subs on color films aren't as bad as they are on B&W films, but they're still pretty garish.

Did you not see the film theatrically? Those are burned-in subtitles as the characters are speaking German together.

This and Star Trek were my 2 favorite movies of 2009. Can't wait for the Blu-Ray release!

for the record I hate hate hate hate hate hate hate yellow subtitles ... with a passion - the yellow subtitles on the 'Das Boot' (extended cut) DVD where alot scenes are already dark to begin with, the subtitles become a major distraction.

How come people are bitching about the yellow subtitles? They were yellow in the film...when we saw it in theater. So why are you guys bitching about something you already knew?

The yellow subs fit the look of this movie just fine.

was it possible that the non 35mm version of the film [i.e, DLP/LCoS (Sony's system)] had standard white subtitles and the 35mm did (I saw it in DLP ) - cause if it was yellow, I'm really surprised I didn't make a stink about it when I saw the film the first time around.

Maybe you were watching the movie, rather than the subtitles?

Not to be rude, but the subtitles were yellow in the movie. I don't care what anyone thinks they remember, I promise the ones I saw were yellow. Seriously, though, how can people possibly complain about something like this? IMHO, this has got to be one of the stupidest 'outcries' I have ever heard on this forum.

agree with RichC2, I think the yellow subtitles fit the look of this film fine.

The subs in the theater were yellow. If you're going to whine like a little bitch, then just buy the one disc full screen DVD of the movie since you don't give a crap about seeing it the way it was meant to be seen. I swear people around here like to bitch just to read themselves bitch.

Yes, the subtitles were yellow theatrically and i dont think one person bitched about it in that thread.

so, i don't really get the bitchin' here. Quite ridiculous.

The yellow subs looked like shit in the theater and they look like shit on dvd/bluray.

There's a reason why a great majority of subs are white. I don't see why this should get a pass.

I always prefer them yellow and thought they looked fine in the theatre. And even if my aesthetic preference were different (say I wanted them white), it would still be a complete non-issue for me. As long as they're legible (which is one reason I prefer them yellow), they work for me.

Because it's the way the director intended it?

I'm excited for this one myself. For whatever reason I never got around to seeing it in theatre when it was released.

One thing I've noticed is two hit current releases, this and "The Hangover" are both being released 7 Dec in UK and a week later here in US. Is that going to be a new pattern with day and date releases? I usually remember it being the reverse, first release usually in US then rest of world.

That's the weakest argument ever and completely illogical. If you're gonna turn a blind eye to criticism just because "that's what the director intended", then why criticize any movie ever? Why do you criticize Transformers2? After all, it's just what Michael Bay intended.

Re: "Inglorious Basterds" 12/15 !

I suspect that the point of yellow subtitles is because yellow is a color that isn't used a lot in film, so there won't be any conflict with background information. White subtitles can get lost in lighter parts of the image.
