I only have the old release of the theatrical cut. This will be an easy film to upgrade for myself - easily the best Guy Ritchie film.

The extended cut had some real rough footage in it, so I wonder how good this could possibly look.
Was just at Amazon and I'd missed this thread here about it (or forgotten), and I saw the cover there: http://www.amazon.com/Lock-Stock-Smo...m_cr_pr_sims_i I notice it doesn't say that it's the longer cut and the listing says 108 minutes (long cut should be 120). Hmmmm...
I also wish they'd port the five-part documentary available everywhere else in the world and include the featurette (even if it sucks) from the original USA Films release.

This is one of the few movies where I prefer the theatrical cut.
The extended cut scenes actually make the story more contrived and symmetrical. I prefer the more chaotic theatrical cut as it suits the style of the film.
Saying that, we should be given both cuts of the film to choose from. Looks like I'll be keeping my R2 Directors Cut DVD as an extras disc to the BD.

So as for this Blu-ray release - has it been confirmed what cut is being included? I'd like it if they included both as I've only ever seen the theatrical cut, want to see the extended version, and on the off chance the director's cut is actually weaker I'd like to be able to choose between the two.

so who are we to believe in regards to PQ?
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels has never been an attractive film -- part of its charm lies in the grit and grime of its sepia-toned, neo-noir visuals -- but Universal's 1080p/VC-1 transfer is an unrepentant mess. Yes, compared to its decidedly dated DVD counterpart, colors are more stable and vibrant, black levels are much deeper, and detail is more refined and revealing. Unfortunately, overzealous artificial sharpening results in a number of issues. Frequent aliasing, ringing, serrated edges, and aggressive bursts of razor-sharp grain undermine the integrity of the transfer, cursing the presentation with an unnatural, digitized haze that robs the image of what could presumably be a convincing filmic appearance. It doesn't help that smudged textures and softness are more pronounced, specks and scratches pepper the proceedings, and contrast is pushed to such an extreme that clarity, skintones, and delineation take significant hits. As for the proficiency of the transfer itself, crush is a consistent issue, but artifacting and banding are kept to a minimum; grain spikes and lulls as it always has, but obvious smearing leaves me to believe DNR has been used on many sequences. That being said, it's tough to tell where Ritchie's production limitations end and Universal's fugly transfer begins. Desperate DVD owners will be somewhat pleased with any upgrade, even an inherent one, but newcomers and videophiles will be far less forgiving. Brace yourselves, gents.

Presented in 1.85:1 widescreen in 1080p high definition, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels has had some color adjustment done in post-production to convey a brownish image. That carries over well on Blu-ray, with image detail noticeable in quite a few scenes, though there's not a lot of background depth to provide any multidimensional look. Film grain is present throughout the images, but any excessive (or "distracting") grain I'll chalk up to the filmmakers' intent. In summary, the film looks good but not great on Blu-ray.

I'll let you know on Tuesday.
But how odd the difference in those two reviews. 2.5/5 movie review on one. 4/5 PQ on the other. And just the opposite on the other site.

Well, I just watched it. So, believe the 4/5 PQ rating. It's quite strong. Especially the close ups. And I'm very very pleased with the upgrade.
"Snatch" is fantastic. And I'd give it's PQ a 4.5/5 rating.
All in all, with the above two and "The Mask of Zorro", I feel like I've hit a home run with my purchases this week.

Re: Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels on 12/1
Any thoughts on this release? It dropped to like $12.49 and I have a $5 promotional certificate to use on a Blu-ray by Tuesday and I'm considering this. Are there any other releases in other countries that have better PQ or better bonus features? Is the PQ on this one really that bad?

Good one!
