Wait, were there pirates in this movie? That's like the Jolly Roger version of Watchmen. I don't get it. Strange choice for the cover art. Now I understand why you guys don't like it...

Pass. I didn't even like the film though, so it was pretty much a given... anyway, that cover art IS terrible. I wonder how many people they hope to trick into buying this with that "THE COMPLETE STORY" bit on it?

I guess someone has never read the source material/graphic novel before, or heard of or watched the standalone release of "Tales Of The Black Freighter"....
Unless your post was meant as :sarcasm:

I already own the DC and Motion Comic on Blu-ray. I'll sell off the Motion Comic and buy this new set.

Yes, the cover is horrible, but I'm excited for the Ultimate Cut. I've never seen Tales of the Black Freighter, and I think I'd prefer to watch it cut into the rest of the film.

I wonder if this'd be available to rent in the mom & pop rental near me. I never bought the DC in case this turned out better than advertised but it seems it's all dependant on how well they pull off the new cut. I have no interest in the motion comic and only mildy curious about Under The Hood.

Yeah, I was thinking the same. I thought it was known back when the DC came out that the Ultimate Cut wasn't going to add significantly more.

I got Black Frieghter for $5 from the wbshop.com pre-order deal for the Director's Cut, so I'm happy with what I have and I don't have any interest in the Motion Comic so I guess i'm good with what I have.

Same here...I added up the running times of the already released Director's Cut BD and the TOTBF, and it looks like this new "Ultimate Cut" only runs approximately 3 minutes longer, so I don't think footage-wise anything else worthwhile is being added that I will miss out on....and I never really have time to listen to any audio commentaries as it is, so I don't feel bad about not getting that either....

Those three minutes will probably be comprised of scenes with the two Bernies.

although i will end up buying it (yes, i am a watchmen fanboy), the cover is horrific and seems to ignore what purpose the smiley-face smeared with blood served. it goes against the grain of the story, IMHO.

I remember reading something a while back - not sure if it's true but - the smiley face is actually a trademarked image. So every time it's used prominently for marketing purposes, they have to pay for the rights to use it. Maybe someone can correct me or clarify if I'm mistaken....

I have heard the same thing, and in fact in the credits I believe they acknowledge the trademark.

You're not mistaken. However, the cover of the first issue is just a yellow image with a black oval and a splotch of blood. It's such an extreme close-up you can't really identify it as the smiley face. That was the brilliance of that cover. That's what they should have used as the cover of this release.

I'll get it because I've been waiting for it. Didn't buy any of the separate BDs.

I am also a Watchmen fanboy. Hate the cover. I'm going to try to force myself not to buy it. But I probably still will.

Its limited to 70,000 copies. Why would the price go down?

I have a feeling I'll be able to get a used copy for $15-$20 after the holiday season. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm willing to take that chance.

The outer case kind of sucks. I took the shrink wrap off and there were already some white dings in it. Don't think it will hold up with a lot of handling.

Yeah mine had plenty as well.

Is this widespread? Im considering returning it for another copy whenever my local stores get more stock due to how unsightly it is.

I'm hoping they release the Ultimate Cut as a single disc because I own everything else on the other discs.

I ordered one from DeepDiscount for $25.86 but it's on backorder. Let's see if they get them back into stock or not.
