Family Guy: Something, Something, Something, Dark Side---> 12/22/09

TvshowsonDVD is reporting that Fox is releasing the sequel to Dark Harvest on December 22nd on Blu-ray. Cover art and more info here:

http://tvshowsondvd.com/n/12484

If I'm not mistaken, this is the first Blu-ray release of Family Guy, right?

Yep, first one. I hope they re-release Blue Harvest on Blu-ray as well. Nice find!

With the mention of the third one, I wonder if I should just wait for a trilogy set.

I assume it will be the season premiere again, so whenever that is.

I'll wait until the first one is available on Blu-ray. Fox never did revisit those 2 Futurama DTV Films.

Sweet! Finally a great release on my birthday!

Of course the real question is, since it is coming out on Blu-ray, does that mean McFarlane finally moved to 16:9 HD for Family Guy? The Cleveland Show will be in HD (at least the leaked pilot is).

Just because it's high-def, doesn't mean that it will be 16x9, but who knows?

How much you want to bet it will be a "fullscreen" (4:3) release on Blu-ray just like Seth MacFarlane's Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy? Yuck.

I don't care what the aspect ratio is, as long as we get OAR on the disc.

Looking forward to this. I don't normally like Family Guy, but "Blue Harvest" was great.

OAR doesn't bother me in the least.

Seth mentioned on the commentary track of Blue Harvest that he believes cartoons should always be 4x3....something about the intimacy of the shot or some such.

I personally disagree with him, as both Simpsons and South Park look great in 16X9, but that's the creator's choice.

Intimacy of the shot... sounds to me they just need to get a little more creative in filling the AR.

Apparently that's how they made it so it is OAR.

Very funny was too short at about 54 minutes.

I doesn't look like they are doing a Limited Edition version this year for region 1. I checked Ezydvd & Amazon UK and it looks like they are getting the Limited Edition. Unless it's exclusive to a specific retailer, I think we are screwed.

I don't mind OAR either, though I would like 16:9. I was glad they did Venture Bros. 16:9 and on blu....it looks friggin' amazing.

Who cares if it's 4:3, just as long as it's OAR? I thought that was the whole point of this forum? (I'm more concerned if it's actually funny)

Very true. However, it would be nice if they changed the OAR to 16:9 :)

Is Family Guy in 16:9 yet on Fox? I know Simpsons (and King of the Hill) had changed over.

No Family Guy is not, but Cleveland Show is which I find odd. Not sure about American Dad.

American Dad isn't yet either. But as mentioned, if The Cleveland Show is 16:9 I don't understand why MacFarlane's better, more sucessful shows haven't changed over.

Re: Family Guy: Something, Something, Something, Dark Side---> 12/22/09

I'd guess it's because a lot of the animation elements are used over and over in those shows, and the older shows were all created in 4:3. It's weird that anything new being released would be given the 4:3 treatment, though. Then again, HBO still shows movies in 4:3 pan-and-scan, which boggles my mind.

Eric F 12-12-09 10:27 PM

Re: Family Guy: Something, Something, Something, Dark Side---> 12/22/09

Family Guy isn't currently HD, just SD 4:3. It will be going HD with its 9th season premiere on Sept 26th, 2010. By that time it will be even less funny than it is now and nobody will be watching, HD or not.

I thought it was great as well. Some jokes were great and some were just okay. Still liked it better than the first. Hopefully the third will be even better.
