Yeah, I'd bet on a holiday 2012 release, they gotta leave 2011 to sell the last installment by itself.

Hrm, though I made a post in this thread already, guess not.

Anyways, I'm quite content with the Hogwarts boxed set that's come out on Blu already. It's been quite a while since I've seen the first two films on Blu, but they certainly weren't bad. They were certainly better than the DVD's. As been mentioned already, I'm sure these releases will just be some fancy repackaging of the same encode/transfer we already have, with some extra features thrown in to entice those that are 'extras' happy. If the picture quality happens to be a bit better, I very well may bite, but other than that I'm going to pass.

^^^^

You're probably thinking of the duplicate thread that was started recently. Maybe the mods can merge the two?

just how "extended" are the extended cuts. If we're talkin just a few minutes then I'll pass. If it gets into double digits I might be interested in films 2, 3, 4, 5 and on. More scenes of my favorite movies is good for me.

1 and 2 will be 7 and 13 minutes longer, respectively.

Based on these images, it looks like these are only 3 disc sets for BD...I'm not interested in all the fancy books/cards/boxes, I just want to know which of these things is the actual DISC CASE and how the discs are inserted and held within it....

It irritates me to no end when these idiot companies take the time to design some fancy overdone set packaging, then leave the discs (the MOST IMPORTANT part of the sets) in some awful cardboard sleeve holders....look at all the problems people had with discs in the Fraggle Rock complete series set, or the Alias series set, or what about that Charmed complete series book deal! BDs may be way more scratch resistant than a plain old DVD, but that doesn't mean you should pay big bucks for an extravagant "ultimate" edition, and then have the discs thrown in any which way as an afterthought.....
From the images and judging from past WB box sets, it looks like they're held in fold-out digipaks. In the picture, they're the boxes that feature the artwork from the outer box without any of the extra graphics/designs (top row, 2nd from the right). It looks like the box on the top left is a slip cover/case which houses the top box 2nd from the left. This should open up to feature the other items stacked inside.

Well, it does look like they have the colors picked out for all eight of them anyway...

I have the 2-disc DVD versions for every movie so far, so I might finally upgrade these to Blu. And probably get HBP on Blu too.

Wow. An extra 7mins on the first film. Yeah, that's worth $35. I think I'll just grab my own cute little wand and dance around my house for 7mins and call it good.

Because that's the only extra feature it has over the regular Blu-Ray

The first two films are fine the way they are. I'd be interested in seeing an extended cut of PoA though.

And hopefully better PQ - otherwise this is a definite pass and is being sold at a more than ridiculous price.

If they continue to produce Ultimate Editions for the remaining films I'll for sure pick this up. I'm a huge Potter fan and these look lovely!

Check out my first post. Amazon links are on there. $34.99 right now.

I would like to see full specs before even thinking of getting these.

I'm really excited about these. Despite the godawful packaging I'll still be buying them all since a) they seem like hugely comprehensive sets and b) even if there's a super-mega box set eventually released, it will just consist of all the Ultimate Editions in one big collection.

Re: Warner's Double Dip continued...Harry Potter 1 and 2 "Ultimate" Editions

To clarify - I meant about remastered picture. Nothing has mentioned that yet. Or the mention of some kind of collectors edition case again like that last one. If they've gone as far as to tell us about these, they must already have in mind some kind of mega-collector's edition in mind. Hopefully stripped down with discs only and without the fluff. I don't really care for the cards or books.

I think I'll wait a year or two until these get released in standard cases at a more reasonable price. In the meantime, these "Ultimate Editions" seem like good candidates to check out at Netflix.

Re: Warner's Double Dip continued...Harry Potter 1 and 2 "Ultimate" Editions

You know I can appreciate WB made a graphic showing all 8 potential releases, but really, I don't have high confidence we're actually going to get 8 uniform releases of these movies.

If I had to guess, we'll see 3 and 4 next year, 5 and 6 in 2011 and 7 and 8 in 2012, which would put them about a year after the initial BD release of the final film. That's a lot of time for things to change. Different packaging trends emerge, etc.

About the only thing to get me to bite on these would be a substantial PQ improvement. I'm sure they'll make great gifts for those getting their first BD players though.

Hopefully these have new transfers. If not then I won't get these, because when they do the uber box set that's when you are likely to see new transfers.
